Title Change for Sacrifice Series Book 2

I have decided to change The Choice to Deadly Luxury. The reason for this decision is that the original title was too generic. The new title is not only more unique, it depicts the story line very well. Also I changed the mock cover to better suit what the novella is about.

Original Mock Cover

New Mock Cover

So? What do you think?

And here's the summary to better show the extent the change helps. You can also click here for a full list and to read on some changes including the addition of the fifth novella (mock cover only).

Summary: Jessica Hatfield lives a life of decadence  She gets up everyday to be pampered and cared for. At age fifteen she will be sacrificed. She wants to but what of those who don't?

Joseph Rowe doesn't believe in The Giving. A ceremony in which every year two teens are sacrificed after living fifteen years of luxury. Refusal means banishment to the wastelands and no return to Chance City. Can he really go against what he was raised to do? To believe?

Thank you for dropping by and see you on Saturday.

Book Review: Diamonds and Toads: A Modern Fairy Tale by K.E. Saxon

Please Note: I'm not doing a double review again today. But you still get to read about a fun modern tale.

Diamonds and Toads: A Modern Fairytale
Genre: Adult Fiction
Source: Netgalley
Purchase: Amazon

Summary: Together, sweet Delilah and wicked Isadora make the perfect woman. But the Perrault family fairy is a troublemaker and imbues diamonds upon one sister and toads upon the other. Now up is down and down is up in a world where no good deed goes unpunished. Leather, blindfolds, and handcuffs purge sweet of all reserve. A few misspoken words of lust gives wicked a whole new meaning.

Once upon a time, there were two sisters, one cursed and one blessed by fairy magic...

Bibbidee-bobbidi-boo, They're naughty. How about you?

Review

Delilah and Isadora may be sisters but they are different as night and day. While Delilah is demure and loving, Isadorah is vivacious and sharp, only interested in the finer things in life. But after meeting up with a fairy who always bucks into descendants of their family line. One sister is blessed and finds riches in more ways than one and the other cursed and for once has to be careful whenever she opens her mouth. The main man in each of their lives are polar opposites as well. Delilah's Chas is rich but she loves him dearly and is initially excited when he asks her to marry him while for Isadora, Sam couldn't stay far enough away with his lack of riches and the way he's wormed to her heart regardless of her life goals and mother's high expectations. Each girl (and guy) has to find their own happily ever after and with  a fairy's help it will be a magical bumpy ride.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read magical fiction with real people and sex scenes that aren't written for porno. I am usually wary of books with multiple sex scenes because sadly writers often skimp on the quality in favour of an erotic tale. Not this book, not only are the sex scenes not nasty and overdone. They focus  on showing us the pleasure of two people being with each other whether it's just sex or more. So whether or not you enjoy reading sex scenes, I recommend this book to you. Also the story draws you in and you want to root for your favourite character and boo the bad/annoying ones. The writer found the perfect way to keep readers engaged and create new twists in a story line that has been used before. My only faults would be some parts get a bit melodramatic and sometimes the pacing can be off. While that has prevented this book from getting 5 starts it's still an excellent that will get you to the last page and filled with the satisfaction of reading a really good book.

Salted With Fire Blog Tour and Netgalley Knockout

I'm proud to be taking part in this blog tour. Salted With Fire by Nancy LaRonda Johnson is a collection of flash fiction and poetry. A fulfilled christian her book highlights her writing journey and a path with God. I know her through her blog and am happy to say that this blogger and author both worth to read and know.

Salted With Fire

Black magic, murder, insanity… humor, honor and devotion. Salted With Fire is a journey of flash fiction and poetry that shows my writing transformation from worldly to wanting to please God.

Flash fiction is my passion; poetry is my release. I love creating a complete story, with a beginning, middle and end, with twists, drama, compassion and horror, all under 1000 words. Salted With Fire isn’t just a book of stories and poetry, it is my journey as a writer, from writing only for the mere joy of it regardless of the message, to writing stories that highlight God’s will for people, even if the stories are not religious in nature.

Inside are fifteen flash fiction pieces and twelve poems with full-color pictures, and short Biblical discussions after each story.

New Blog Awards

In May you saw my Latest Blog Awards Won (numbers 6-8). Now you'll see my New Blog Awards and these four range from 'scary' to just plain sweet. Thank you award givers, I'm  grateful to receive such praise.

Award nine comes from Elise Fallon and it's a creepy one. She got it passed to her during the A-Z challenge and in June decided to pass it on to bloggers whose blogs she herself commented on during the challenge this year. So I've been tagged by the Zombie Rabbit. I am so proud. Thanks El!

Award number ten comes from Elizabeth Seckman. Of course this sweetheart would give me another blog award. This award makes me all giddy because it's all about sisterhood. All smiles that you passed this to me Liz and thank you. That's my round up of June 2013 awards.

Now to pass this one. Here you go eight blog sisters.

Cassie Mae (The Funny Sister)

Morgan (A Unique Lady)

Ilima Todd (The Kind One and Honest Firefly Devotee)

Dani (Super Entertaining Sister)

Nancy LaRonda Johnson (A Dear Friend)

Kelley Lynn (Unforgettable Sister)

Tara Tyler (Loving and Dedicated Sister)

Jolene Perry (Excited Whenever You Visit and Inspiration Sister)

Award number eleven caught me unawares. David Powers King gave me the Shine On Award and rules state I must tag my giver, reveal seven random facts about myself and award fifteen bloggers (funny, like David I'll do five). Thanks David and I guess I should have known since I first caught your eye in May along with two other females as you took our virtual luggage and welcomed us.

1. I changed the title of one of my novellas (not book one) in The Sacrifice Series. More next Wednesday where I'll post the full line-up and tell you about a certain change. Hey, I need to self-promote more so yes I'm using a  blog award. Deal with it.

2. I'm a christian.

3. I am religious. Saying you're spiritual but not religious (and being a christian) bugs me. I don't want to infringe on others opinions but some act as if religion pooped on their lawn so they kicked it out of the house. How can you be a christian but have no belief in religion? Sorry but I find this weird.

4. I love people!

5. I love books. Like crazy love if they started moving around I'd get round about restraining orders.

6. I have a cover reveal coming up. If you'd like to sign up go to Sacrifice Her Cover Reveal Sign Up Page. Yes more self-promotion. Don't judge Me! Chef doesn't in those Chef Boyarde commercials.

7. Who else knew the character on this award is from the anime Chobits? If you did the award is automatically passed unto you along with these five lucky winners.

Five Bloggers Awarded ok...Seven

Leigh Covington

Jaybird

Amber Argyle

Michael Offcut

Trisha F.

Mary

Charlie Holmberg

And Lastly Award Twelve comes from Hope Roberson. She gave me a Liebester Blog Award and now I get to answer lots of fun questions. Fun long questions but still lots of fun. Thanks Hope. *Smiles* Oh and notice anything special about the font colours below?

Part One: Eleven Things About Me

1. Unlike Hope I definitely don't have a tattoo.

2. Love looking at stock photo images. You will see a nice result on Wednesday with book #5 in The Sacrifice Series.

3. When I try to wiggle my nose, my mouth does most of the movement instead. My ears, moves my eyebrows and my eyebrows...actually that one goes right. So yes I'm strange and have brain wiring issues.

4. I love cupcakes!!

5. I'm thinking of getting together a Sacrifice Her street team in Jamaica. Hmm. How the hell do I do this?

6. Never been on a roller coaster. *Pouts*

7. Enjoy getting blog awards. Hint, hint.

8. I wrote a two small snippets for two videogames years ago. Maybe I'll write the story line for a video game someday. A Halo Picnic....with action and parenting! No? Forget you hater!

9. My latest favorite show is The Haves and the Have Nots. *squeals*

10. Amanda Hocking's sequel Lullaby sort of disappointed me. It kind of went contemporary on me and let's just say.... Amanda needs to stick with the paranormal streak in her books. *Pained Smile* But Wake (first in Watersong series) rocked.

11. I'm actually expanding my Pinterest Boards. So I'm on the road to addiction.

Part Two: Eleven Questions

1. Favorite color?

Pink and black or blue. It depends on my mood. Ooooh I'm a mood ring. Wait, why did I think that would be scary? Oh right my answer to Part One question #3 explains it all.

2. If I could change or make a law, what would it be?

That there be a Critique Partner listing for authors in every parish/state. *Gasps* Oh you're serious? Well...so am I, damn if it's not hard to find an available one sometimes and don't get me started on the ones who keep the same people for a trillion years. Yeah, I'm outing you.

3. Do you believe individual personality characteristics have more impact from environment or genetics?

Environment, no matter what the genes pass on the wrong environment will mess you up somehow.

4. Do you believe there are other life forms in the universe?

I always believed in Foreigners. Who doesn't?

5. Can you remember your last dream? What was it?

I remember having Smurf movie daydreams with Vanity in them and then he made it into the second movie as a starring character. Does that count?

6. What movie most impacted your childhood?

??? I still love Disney animated movies. The Little Mermaid! Though I don't want to go love in the sea. Have you seen the documentaries on pollution? *Cringes*

7. What is your fear?

Angry Ghosts? Someone stealing my books? *Grabs piece of board* See the size of it, I dare you to try and get a five fingered discount on me.

8. If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

Teleportation. What? I don't want a boyfriend right now and kids are in a dream within a dream so.... (Did you know that the spelling correction came up and one of my other options was Deportation? Seriously! I'm already in my home country, get lost nosy 'spell correction' program. Or should I say nosy heifer).

9. What was the last song you listened to?

Not sure but 'Out of My League' by Fitz and the Tantrums pops to mind.

10. Who is the one person I would want to spend eternity with?

My cousin Shawnette. She's my best friend in the whole wide world.

11. When was the last time you smiled?

While writing up this award list. *Smiles again*

Passing it on:

To the first ten who comment today. Yes I'm done linking up new award winners for today. Oy.

Celebrate the small things

Being on a happy high. Yes that's what I'm celebrating. Enjoy your weekend.

Express Yourself Meme

What frustrates me most as a writer is discussing frustration at all (maybe not most but it's definitely annoying). So instead I'll say what's super exciting about being a writer for me is choosing my next project. In my self-publishing world it's Sacrifice Series, Snow and the Red Series at the front of the pack. In my agent sending/traditional publishing world (on hold til 2015) Circa and Escaping Wonderland are having a female fighting match. Oh...Alice just dragged a handful of Circa's white hair. Guess I shouldn't have disallowed using special powers since Alice did a stint in prison. Sorry Circa. Wow Circa knocked her off with a round house kick but oh no she's coming for me. Gotta run. Circa you can't be calling the broken microwave from the kitchen to chase me! No fair!

Enjoy your weekend and I'll do two book reviews on Tuesday so no Saturday review this week. See you Monday with a post relating to Nancy LaRonda Johnson and her book.

Book Review: Breathless by Brigid Kemmerer

Breathless by Brigid Kemmerer
Genre: Young Adult
Source: Netgalley
Purchase: Amazon

I immediately got this off Netgalley in June because I had read another novella Elemental and was excited to see what Brigid would write next. Sad to say Breathless was no Elemental. It didn't give me the same drive to read right to the end and an immediate connection to the characters like Elemental did. But what it did give was a different story despite the repeated romance and special abilities element. The main character Nick seems to have a very good life. Despite the loss of his parents he has his brothers, his girlfriend and a really good head on his shoulders with a focus on higher education instead of girls and wild parties. But he has a secret, one he fears would tear his family apart faster than the air he has the ability to control. His girlfriend Quinn on the other hand is a mess. Look up disaster in the dictionary and you'll see her life as an example when explaining the definition. She thinks she's fat, unworthy and the only way to keep a boy around is to sleep with him. Nick is different but she is yet to learn just how different. Then her friend Adam comes into the picture and what was once a slow boil quickly explodes into disaster of epic proportions. Secrets are revealed, hearts are broken and friendship is tested to the limits.

What Breathless loses in maintaining my interest with a great attention grabbing story it re-energizes with a deep realistic story of a boy wanting to belong and be his true self. Nick can only see disaster if his secret is revealed but with the help of Quinn and maybe even Adam, he can learn to accept that living in truth is better than hiding behind a lie. This novella still tells a really good story and the underlying factor of sexuality is one of the big things that saves it from being a so-so story and one you'll want to read. Even if you have to do it in small doses to keep from getting bored with medium energetic storytelling. I am actually more excited for when this novella gets turned into a full length book. I can only hope Brigid will take what made Elemental great and use it to make Breathless full length novel fantastic. I recommend you read a sample first before deciding if this novella is for you but definitely recommend you get into this series. You'll be in for a terrific ride.

I Spy...a Secret Blogfest

Today I'm taking part in the I Spy...a Secret Blogfest.

I'm sharing an excerpt from my WIP Shade Me. Cassie is a Shade (a nice version of a wraith) and she has decided to take human form. But her best friend Lizzie is uncomfortable around anything non-human. Making it hard for her to reveal herself.

Excerpt

"I know," Lizzie breathed, "so about Bradford. Has he let go the dream of being your beloved?"

Cassie grunted. Bradford was a vampire with incredible looks and an ego to match. As far as she was concerned he could jump into a volcano. But for some reason no matter how much she blasted him, he refused to leave her alone. Recently she decided to just ignore him. While it gnawed at her insides not to answer him she got the satisfaction that her silence was starting to irk him too.

"You can have him whenever you get tired of Jessie," Cassie said in a syrupy sweet voice.

"Ugh, no," Lizzie turned that down, "I only hang out with the human crowd thank you very much. Just the thought of being around anything non-human too long makes me shudder. They can have their rights, I have the right to turn around and walk away."

Cassie bit her lip. This was the hard part of being friends with Lizzie. Hearing the happy blonde strike down anything non-human as awful or unnatural hurt. What she wouldn't do to have a close friend who'd allow her to make her true self known. I'm such a hypocrite. "Right."

Well there you have it everyone. My entry for the bloghop. Enjoy your weekend.

Getting Personal: Real Life Zombies

I read Lynda's Zombie Post earlier this month and it inspired me to write about real life zombies. What are real life zombies you ask? I see them as people who not only go with the flow but also have the insatiable urge to bring more into the fold. It is never enough for them that you're not interested. Worse the more you refuse their ways the more of them come after you to change your mind.

Want an example? Say you want to be an actress but a close friend thinks because you have a love for science, you must go into medicine. She herself is going to practice law and you must come along to do a real career. You turn her down but that's not the end of it. She keeps coming back and the more you refuse, the harder she tries even going as far as bringing in some of her like minded friends who hound you to change your mind and join them in what they consider the road to success.

While this might seem harmless there are real dangers here. Many people are unhappy in their current job because they listened to someone who told them their dream job wasn't good enough. Some even go to the point where life isn't even considered worth living. The sad truth is there are zombies among us. And if we're not careful, we'll become their lunch or become one of them and go after other dream chasers.

Making a deal with the bad guys wasn’t the highlight of Rena Collins’ semester, but, hey, it saved her boyfriend. Now, in order to appease the human-altering organization known as ERA, she’ll crawl under their microscope while they study the Mark of Nexus and plot their eye-glazed version of the future—until she realizes that’s not all they’re plotting.
Wallace Blake has always known his girlfriend is unlike most girls. But now that information has surfaced regarding the two bloodlines that balance his supernatural race, he finally understands why. Rena belongs to one of them. She’s been augmenting his power, all along...
Enter: Corynn Catley. Brought into the country under the guise of an internship, she’s intended to become ERA’s secret weapon. Kind of. Her abilities cancel out Wallace’s, rendering him powerless, but that’s exactly what he’s always wanted. Too bad it only works when his girlfriend’s not around.
All the while, Rena fails to notice the crush her geeky best friend, Aiden Ross, is nursing. He’d give anything for her to see him in a new light—even reinvent himself through questionable means—but there’s a reason people are told to be careful what they wish for. Finding the courage to tell her could put everyone’s lives in danger.

Today I'm doing the cover reveal for No One's Angel as a tour host for  Xpresso Book Tours.

BOOK & AUTHOR INFO:

No One's Angel by Kelly Walker
Publication date: September 17th 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

But the more Arion tries to keep Angel close, the more her fear drives her away. If they are ever going to have a chance for a future, they’ll first have to deal with the past that hasn’t forgotten her any more than she’s forgotten it, and Arion will have to learn how to let her go.
