IWSG:Upcoming Cover Reveal and Netgalley Knockout - August Check In

Insecure Writer's Support Group is hosted every first Wednesday by our helpful Ninja Captain Alex Cavanaugh. My insecurity today is mingled with excitement. Next Wednesday will be the cover reveal for Sacrifice HER. Also with my Blackfire Marketing Package I sent in the information required to also have a reveal with CBL Book Tours (either Sept. 11 or later). My insecurity is how my cover will be received when it's finally seen. I know it's the best that could be done and it looks amazing to me. Yet I still wonder about other's opinion. So that's my insecurity. Am I overreacting? And what about those of you already gone through a cover reveal. Any tips to pass the time until the big day?

Netgalley Knock Out - August Check In

Last Month when I signed up for Netgalley Knock Out my main hope was to not be the one who didn't do anything. Thankfully I did post some e-galley reviews. Here they are below.

1. Undead and Unfed by Kirsty McKay (Double book review)

2. Chester Raccoon and the Big Bad Bully

3. My Dog, My Cat

  3. The cover reveal is going to be awesome, I'm sure! And the excitement/nervousness never goes away ... You just have to work around it ;)

  4. I didn't do a big cover reveal for Secondary Characters, so I have no tips on pushing off the nerves. But, if you love it I'm sure we will, too! I'm very excited to see it!

  5. Ooo, I'd be nervous too but I'm sure that the reveal is going to be great!

  6. I was totally nervous about my cover reveal too. But your cover will be a huge success and you'll have a blast, I've no doubt. Can't wait to be part of the reveal. :)

  7. I believe I'm helping with your reveal next week. If you're sending out a reveal packet, I'd like to be part of that chain! :)

  11. Hope your cover gets the reception you're looking for and I liked your goal for Netgalley: to NOT be the deadbeat. You didn't come close!

  12. I don't think you're overreacting - I think it's probably a normal reaction for most writers when they're about to reveal their book's cover! But I'm sure it will be gorgeous :-)

  13. I'm sure your cover will be awesome. As long as you love it, that's all that matters :)

  14. I don't think you're over reacting, because that's the norm for being a writer. We're excited, proud, hard working, and scared that all of that will be trampled upon. But you know your talent and I'm sure you're confident about your tastes and judgments. So, just wait it out and look for those who will love it just as much as you. I'm sure there will be plenty. :)

  15. Sheena, your concern is valid. I asked my blog readers, family members and friends for their opinion of my first book cover. I took their suggestions and let go of the designed I had in mind.

I guess your decision is final, but if you love the cover, and you think that it conveys the message in the book, then follow your instinct or heart.

I can't wait to see it.

  16. Hey, Sheena,

Looking forward to the cover reveal. As long as you're happy with the cover and people like it too, then all is good.

  17. I'm sure your cover will be awesome. Don't sweat it, we're all here to support you :)

  18. Book Covers are a big deal. They are exciting to witness you book coming to fruition. It'll be cool!

  19. I think that, if you think you've done all that you can to make your cover the best it can be, you have nothing to worry about.

Looking forward to seeing it :)

  20. Oh Lord I feel you on this, Sheena-kay! The thing to keep in mind is that covers are SO subjective to reader taste. So long as you don't mislead a reader (show them something on the cover that doesn't happen in the book, or doesn't represent the genre/theme of the book) I think you just have to go with what you think rocks. :)

I'm doing my own covers now, which makes me super insecure when it comes to what I think is going to go over well. But ultimately, no one knows the story like you do, so if you think it's awesome, some readers will too.

  21. I love cover reveals! I've done a lot of them for my bloggy friends. I'm a visual learner, so a cover is a big deal to me - it's my first impression. However, now that I'm 99% Kindle, I don't usually see the cover...I can totally relate to the insecurity though...I'd be a nervous wreck, too. That being said, you've done what you can do, so leave it in God's loving hands ;-)

  22. Ditto what E.J. said! Covers, like books, are very subjective. You just have to have faith when you send that book baby into the world. :)

  23. Very interesting, I think yours is not insecure, I think it is more expectation!

  24. Email me (authorrachel @ gmail.com) the info and I'll do a cover reveal for you on my blog on the 11th. That's always a fun time. :)

  25. Good luck with the cover reveal! I think it's natural to be nervous before these thing, it show you care about your work. I'm sure it'll be fine though. :)

  26. Good luck. I think the important thing is you like it. There will always be people out there who won't. But the great thing...there will be people who will love it!

  27. It will be fantastic, I'm sure. I'm on this cover reveal list, right? I don't think I've received any info though... am I missing something?

    So excited for you lady!

  28. I loved my dog, my cat!

  29. I'm sure your cover is awesome. The wait? No advice... I'm waiting for something myself at the moment, and my days are passing in a blur of complete inactivity. I know I should be doing something and then the time will pass quicker, but I'm stuck in limbo. I'm sure Wednesday will be here before you know it!
