Tsunami Crimes Blog Tour: Writing Inspiration

Today I'm taking part in the Tsunami Crimes Blog Tour for author Chrys Fey. I asked her a question which she graciously answered. Take it away Chrys and read on to see her book and a giveaway.

Blog Tour Question: What inspired you write a disaster crimes series?

Well, it all started with the desire to write just one story. Years ago, I read a book set during a blizzard. When I finished reading it, I realized how many winter stories I’ve read, but I had never read one about weather I knew…hurricane weather. Right away, I set off to write that story. I knew I wanted it to be a romantic-suspense. Except, I didn’t want it to be typical. What better way to do that than by making my heroine’s counterpart a suspected murderer? That’s how the crime aspect came about.

It wasn’t until after I published Hurricane Crimes and heard from two readers when a series became my next goal. One reader wished Hurricane Crimes had been longer. The other reader wanted to know what happened with Donovan be…

I Survived Blogfest: Drama and Tsunami

Today I'm thrilled to be a part of the I Survived Blogfest hosted by Chrys Fey. Warning. My post does not follow the scientific movement of Tsunamis. This is purely fictional.

This is Chris Fey reporting for Disaster 5 News. I am visiting the lovely island of Jamaica where a tsunami sadly hit yesterday morning. I have Miss Graham with me, a survivor of the tsunami. Miss Graham, can you tell our viewers what happened, and how you survived?

Miss Graham: For starters call me Sheena-kay or Sheena. When last name call me think of me mother.

Mrs. Graham (in the background): 'My' mother.

Miss Graham: Mom, I'm doing an interview, stop it.

Mr. Graham (in the background): Macy, let...just leave her alone nuh?

Mrs. Graham (louder): No. She is representing the country with this foreign white lady and needs to speak in Standard English. This is not the time broken English or patios. You know some of them people would bring back slavery in an instant. I don't trust one of…

Monday MishMash: January 2017

Monday Mishmash is a weekly meme created by Kelly Hashway for sharing what's going on in your life and noggin. You just grab a button and post your business...I mean thoughts online. No biggie. Have fun!

1. Very excited that my fresh slate has helped my presence on social media. Participating in more chats and daily hashtag writing games is really helping me learn more and meet more writers.

2. I have been working on researching marketing better and what I'm learning is astounding.

3. With my fresh slate so far I'm preparing an entry for Kindle Scout, entering poetry in the local JCDC Literary Contest, preparing to send a few chapters of my MG manuscript to be critiqued by an agent (won a blog contest), working on my princess YA manuscript and my adult fantasy. That might sound like a mouthful but it is much more organized than in the past.

4. Have to work on reading more. I leave way too many books unfinished.

5. Still have three more episodes of A Series of Unfortunate E…

Book Review: The Secret Life of a Witch and Thank You Giveaway Winner

Yes my dear readers today I'm finally back on the book review track. Today has us with a quick romp in fantasy. A novella can do that.

Summary from Goodreads: My name is Evalee, and I have a secret. I’m a witch.
Okay, maybe it’s not that big of a secret. At least not in Mystic Willow Bay where practically every paranormal creature lives.

Still, I have plenty of secrets. Like the fact that I suck at casting spells, which is a huge problem, considering I’m a witch. But I can talk to dead bodies and am secretly working on a spell that will hopefully revive my sister from the dead. Until I perfect the spell, I’ve hidden her body in the basement, something my parents are completely clueless about.

I’m also in love with my best friend, Hunter, one of the most popular wizards in school and who’s completely out of my league in the dating department.

But I’m not the only person in Mystic Willow Bay that has secrets. And some are way worse than mine. Like whoever has been stealing dead bodies…

Waiting on Wednesday: Legion and Poetry Corner #1

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

Strange enough this week's WOW I'm a bit hesitant to get too excited about. This is the fourth book in the Talon series and while I loved the first two, the third was a dud for me. Still I do have some anticipation for the upcoming book below and hope the cool blurb translates to me loving this series again. Please?

Summary from Goodreads: Dragon hatchling Ember Hill was never prepared to find love at all--dragons do not suffer human emotions--let alone the love of a human and a former dragonslayer, at that. With ex-soldier Garret dying at her feet after sacrificing his freedom and his life to expose the deepest of betrayals, Ember knows only that nothing she was taught by dragon organization Talon is true. About humans, about rogue dragons, about herself and what she's capable of doing and feeling.
In the face of great lo…

Netflix Nation: Trollhunters, Underworld Awakening, Van Helsing and Shadowhunters

Before I start I want to drop a quick thank you to all who were supportive on my friend's only Facebook post over the weekend. I had a hard time dealing with some financial set backs thanks to both health and freelance sales drop issues. It was great to see all the support that poured in. It is great to know when my cheer leading pep starts to dim...I have such lovely live pick me ups. Thanks.

Anyway unto another segment of Netflix Nation. Today I'm chatting about the latest shows I have watched on Netflix.

Watch period: December 17, 2016 - January 8, 2017

Honorable Mention: Re-watching Once Upon a Time Season 5, Teen Wolf Season 3 and last 3 episodes of The Shannara Chronicles.

Trollhunters (Netflix Series)

I had genuine fun with this one. Voiced by the late Anton Yelchin, Jim is a teenager who suddenly got tasked with the role of Troll Hunter. The first human who has to protect both humans and trolls a like from the evil of their kind. The evil trolls come in various forms an…

Happy New Year to all and welcome to 2017! IWSG has arrived and I'm happy to say that this month Alex Cavanaugh is the main host like always. This month I'm one of the co-hosts (Sheena-kay Graham). The rest of  January's co-hosting team includes Crystal Collier, Eva, Chemist Ken, LG Keltner and Heather Graham. Has to be a fine month when you get two Grahams at once.

Right now I'm not feeling any new insecurities so I'll stick with this month's IWSG question.

January IWSG Question: What writing rule do you wish you'd never heard of?

None. You read right. There's no writing rule that I regret hearing about or never wished to have come across. Why? Because as a child I had zero family support …

Happy 2017 and Goal Hop Update

It is 2017 everybody! I hope it finds you in good spirits and ready to tackle the New Year. The flu has reared up again but I'm undaunted in spirit. Ready to tackle any and everything. 2016 was quite a year with it;s highs and lows. No book published but I'm advancing in my freelance writing life and finding it quite fulfilling. Book release dates are kaput as I focus on writing for my clients and privately working on my own work. Will let you know if any specific progress is made in the future. But never fear there will still be plenty to share in book reviews, movie/netflix/television posts, IWSG, promotions, hops/challenges, giveaways, other bookish things and etc. The times are a changing but I'll still be here to blog with my peeps. Much love guys.

Also I won an award and got a badge for my WEP post in December. Look at it! I'm so proud. Congrats to the winner and everyone who entered. You can see the winners here. Expect more poetry on this blog as I open up myse…
