IWSG: Concerns on No to Muslim Ban and Trump

Updated: Yup I'm going there today fellow IWSG. I'm mad and won't be silenced. I'm angry, feel a strong need to act and time to share some hard words and no alternative facts. For those who feel that I'm wrong for sharing this on IWSG I'll just say this. I have shared my health issues and other thoughts that were not writing related without any question or complaints whether on my blog or elsewhere. This is another of those posts so feel free to read or not read. Special thanks to those who have said they feel encouraged by me speaking out. Kudos. Like always everyone is free to have their own opinion. Welcome and feel free to speak your mind.

Last week Donald Trump issued a blanket ban on citizens from several countries. By what is claimed to be a coincidence and for security of the United States these countries could no longer have citizens from there re-entering the U.S. and just happened to have Islam as their #1 religion. Some over 90% Muslim. Yet that's a coincidence. Also a coincidence none of the countries currently on the list had terrorists that took American lives. Yet countries like Saudi Arabia that aren't on this list had terrorist that had taken a total of over 2,000 American lives. How can anyone believe that makes any sense?

P.S.: I'm not being sarcastic

Especially with the stories coming out that Trump has investments in some of the countries not on the ban list yet had terrorists originally from there that have taken American lives. I don't usually get political on my blog but I'm done keeping my anger to twitter. This ban is unconstitutional and can lead to Americans as well as Christians worldwide getting banned or hassled in other countries as retaliation. Protection my ass. I'm not for the ban at all but until Saudi Arabia gets on that list I'm calling bullshit on this having anything to do with protecting American citizens. Bigotry, that's what this is. And when Saudi Arabia makes it on the list in the next Aladdin Disney remake I'm going to call it bigotry too!

Straight from Trump's Twitter page - Why God?

Trump's America effect on Jamaicans

There was a report on local news earlier this month that a representative (someone who clearly didn't want to be named) had suggested to Jamaica (my home country where I have lived all my life) that while trade and relationships are okay right now that we should consider creating relationships with other countries like China, India and other Asian countries I can't recall right now. First off we already have a great relationship with China so that stinky ass representative can get deep throat from a piranha. We have Chinese citizens who left their home country to come here and now have generations of well locals, some of which have become top business men and even entered politics. Plus I find it interesting that a Western country would suggest we go make relationships with the East when we have many closer Western neighbours. This 'representative' probably doesn't even know where Jamaica is on a map or the language we speak (it's English which I'm certain readers are aware). Second what the hell does that statement even mean other than offensive and threatening suggestions and undertones? Let me say this right now. Jamaica might be a small island but we know when to lock up and take nothing from people who think they can be striking out of order. We already rejected that prison building offer from a certain past visiting president (I refuse to name that bastard) that apparently thought we were begging for more extra prisons to lock up people. President Obama sure as hell didn't come with that tripe. Only goodwill and respect. Now Trump is in power and the word coming out to our local news and politics is all bad. Jamaicans abroad are even reportedly calling in to find out their rights. Yup, they're calling Jamaica from America to find out their options. Talk about lack of trust. Plus this made the news. Do you know how hard it is to get on local news? We don't have news panels sitting down to discuss what our Prime Minister said last night. We have other things to report on. So when we have almost daily Trump concerns popping up, that's bad. It's almost like our own Prime Minister doesn't even exist!

Final Note

I could go on and on but I'll just leave it there. Trump's executive orders have been seen internationally as brazen, prejudiced and just plain scary. He himself is often referred to as a bigot, fear monger, fool, unprepared, not a true president and the list goes on. Neither George Bush or Obama were so besieged by negativity this insane just at the infancy of their presidency. At least not in my country. We are not even a mostly Muslim place, we're christian. But this move to ban people and refugees is just disgusting. Even green card holders and the fact that not even travel officials knew about this is just all shades of idiotic. It's like having a surprise reveal of a new house for your mother then telling her you blew up her old house with all her things in it. Yes a new house (protecting America) is not a bad thing but blowing up the old house (Muslim ban) is not the way to move forward. Whether or not people agree with me these are my thoughts.

Plus I'm very bothered by fellow bloggers I know who have fears because of potentially losing their health care and those who depend on Planned Parenthood which does much more than just abortions. I'd never want to have one (but respect the fact that it is necessary for some women and needs to exist) of those but defunding a place that offers multiple types of female care is just delusional and plain awful. I hope those who are 100% Pro-Life are also Anti-Death Penalty. I'm not, I believe some people deserve to be executed. That rally should represent traditional females like myself but some of that rhetoric.... And don't get me started on people at that Pro-Life rally who think women should not be allowed sexual protection outside of condoms. Get out of here!

Definitely stopping now since I've gone to angry tangent level. If you're offended then that's just the way the cookie crumbles. I'm too angry for others who I feel are being stepped on to care. Usually I'm much kinder but today I'm just not in the mood. Does anything about this Muslim Ban or Trump make you feel any insecurities or anger? God Bless and my next post will be Friday (sorry for putting Monday there before).

    1. And that's because this isn't what the IWSG is all about.

    2. Fair enough Alex. I have written other non-writing related posts like about my health and etc but fair enough.

  2. He hasn't banned anyone - he put a 120 day hold on immigrants from 5 Middle Eastern countries so they have time to analyze and improve the procedure for screening for terrorists. I'm sorry, but I have no problem with that. Our church has missionaries in Greece and the Syrian refugees are pouring into that country - along with the terrorists disguised as refugees. There have been many acts of terrorism as a result and our missionaries say they are truly frightened. When it hits home like that, you understand why.

    1. Sorry Diane but I disagree. There are green card holders who either were detained for long periods because of this executive order or sent elsewhere. Even a man who had helped the United States military in the Middle East couldn't enter and had to be sent back. He was very upset when he spoke to reporters about what he had sacrificed only to be suddenly turned away. That's just wrong. This order was way too wide and there still has been no good explanation as to why countries like Saudi Arabia who have terrorists who killed U.S. citizens are not listed.

  3. I'm as outraged as you about the ban and everything else that has gone on since Trump took office. And I'm one of the people on Obamacare who have no idea what's going to go on with my health insurance for my daughter and me. I pray that I can afford whatever "better" plan they create. Thanks for speaking out.

    1. You're welcome Natalie and I'm glad to see someone else feels anger towards these awful policies. So sorry about the looming health insurance issues for you and your daughter. A total travesty this Trump government is indeed.

  4. It's just ridiculous to me that the country which bombed and devastated all those Muslim countries and supported ISIS in them is now saying - we've destroyed your homes, you must runaway but not through our doors. It is also ridiculous that all of the world has kept quiet while Osama Barack was dropping close to 30,000 bombs around the world, butchering kids, women, men etc and starting the biggest intercontinental exodus we've ever seen, but now they're all marching against this idiot Trump for signing some papers? Where were all of them during Hitlery's and Osama Barack's bloodthirsty warmonger years?

  5. And the ban is temporary while he and his administration get the lay of the land. Most administrations do something similar. It only made the news because the media is so inflamed. Personally, I have to stay away from the news because so much of it is bogus right now. I wish they'd use a little more context in their reporting. The vote yesterday did lift some of these restrictions anyway.

Regardless, we'll watch and see what comes in the next couple months, but I don't anticipate the media will give it a fair shake down, no matter what happens. It sucks that all the networks are owned by a set of people with the exact same agenda.

  6. Yeah I'm seeing a lot of stuff in the news that's worrying me. What's scaring me more than a little is how they're just doing all this stuff so early on. Is it because they just want to get everything unpleasant out of the way, or because they're planning to do much worse and want to desensitize the world to it?

No way or knowing just yet.

  7. I appreciate this post, Sheena-kay, and like that you're speaking your mind. As Alex pointed out, though, IWSG probably isn't the best time to share this. Non-writing related posts are fine, but we hope to be positive on IWSG Day. :)

  10. I didn't take offense at what you wrote, Sheena-kay. I'm very distressed by what is going on since Trump took office. The ban, and that's the word Trump used, is morally wrong, and it was implemented with chaos. I am keenly aware of how non-Americans feel about Trump, considering I have friends and family around the world, including a brother who works in Kuwait. I was very proud of Trudeau when he said that Canada would welcome those who were unwelcome in the US. Sometimes I'm so proud of my native country, Canada, that I could burst! Deep, slow, breaths. Somehow things will get worked out. Sending you a big hug!

  11. I'm totally depressed by the whole situation, and also scared. Especially because as Misha mentioned, I fear they are planning much worse. Hugs to you, Sheena-kay.

  12. You have read some of my Trump series so I think you know some of what I feel. Over all I think the reporting on Trump and his actions is highly reactionary, biased, and misrepresented. That's what I hear in the U.S. so I can only imagine what the press in other countries is reporting.

I see a great deal of logic in the actions the new administration is taking and what they are saying. And really, we're in something like the second week of a new administration that is getting nothing but push back from the Democrats and negative reporting from an unreliable press. I'd say for everyone to take a deep breath and look into all of this a bit more deeply. I think there is a lot of good coming in months ahead. People just need to give Trump and his highly professional administration a chance (if they can get their appointments past the bitterly contentious Democrats).

I feel a lot of optimism with what I see going on. And finally after Obama's fecklessness, somebody is willing to address the serious issues of Islam. The extremism of Islam has been going on for centuries and people need to look at what is going on and where it will go in the future. The leaders of Islam need to address this among themselves as a few of the wiser leaders of Islamic countries have stated themselves and Western nations need to examine the issue as well. Just to let millions of Muslims settle in countries that are primarily of a Judeo-Christian background might be laying the groundwork for a very dangerous and unstable future worse than what we have now.

If each of us, our leaders, and the world don't understand what is going on before just opening doors to everyone then it will be too late when the big troubles come our way.

I think it's fine that you are bringing this up (maybe not for IWSG--though I guess I'm not one to talk about that). What concerns me more are the vast numbers of people who don't want to discuss the issues looking at all sides because they are mad, offended, afraid, or whatever it is that upsets them.

  13. I'm glad you ranted and got that off your chest. Especially in America, we can tend to focus on just this country and not what the rest of the world thinks of us. This joker is completely ruining America's reputation in the rest of the world (which, let's face it, wasn't super great to begin with). He's also trashed relations with Australia. Just...ugh. This GUY. I swear...he has no tact or diplomacy.

Three things upset me most about the Muslim ban: one, as a Christian, I was raised to view Judaism and Islam as sibling religions so the ban and the willful misunderstanding of Islam by so many Americans upset me; two, like you said, the ban doesn't even do what it was supposed to do (ban people from countries which have originated terror attacks); and three, elderly and sick people have literally died while waiting to be admitted to the US (for medical care which they were coming to receive). Even Trump's most hardcore supporters have to admit that that's extremely heartless.

I think he's testing the waters right now, trying to see what he can get away with without massive public backlash. He has indeed had to backtrack on some things because of backlash, but...well, we'll see.
