Getting Personal: Real Life Zombies

I read Lynda's Zombie Post earlier this month and it inspired me to write about real life zombies. What are real life zombies you ask? I see them as people who not only go with the flow but also have the insatiable urge to bring more into the fold. It is never enough for them that you're not interested. Worse the more you refuse their ways the more of them come after you to change your mind.

Want an example? Say you want to be an actress but a close friend thinks because you have a love for science, you must go into medicine. She herself is going to practice law and you must come along to do a real career. You turn her down but that's not the end of it. She keeps coming back and the more you refuse, the harder she tries even going as far as bringing in some of her like minded friends who hound you to change your mind and join them in what they consider the road to success.

While this might seem harmless there are real dangers here. Many people are unhappy in their current job because they listened to someone who told them their dream job wasn't good enough. Some even go to the point where life isn't even considered worth living. The sad truth is there are zombies among us. And if we're not careful, we'll become their lunch or become one of them and go after other dream chasers.

  1. You have a good point! People with a narrow vision that can't see anything outside of that path.
I had several options and ultimately I'm glad I chose the path I did and I do enjoy what I do. And it's given me the freedom to explore those other options as well.

  2. There are many zombies out there, for sure. Not just the ones who look to change your mind but, also, the ones who just blindly follow things like the media, politicians, celebrities, etc.

    Walking Dead, indeed....

  3. Like crabs in a bucket. They aren't willing to go the extra mile to do something different and certainly don't want you to make them look bad by successfully doing it. That's what negative people do - tear down others so they don't look bad. And suck those dreams right out.

  4. There are also real life soul suckers (vampires?) who suck the life out of you just being around them. We don't need them either.

  5. I've never looked at it like that, but it's so true. Unfortunately, there's a lot of them out there, and thanks to you, I'll be looking at them in a perfect light :)

  6. I wrote a screen play in college about this, involving commuters shufflinf on and off trains on their ways to and from their soul-sucking jobs. So yeah, I totally get what you're saying.

  7. That can be a real annoyance. Fortunately, I don't have too many zombies in my life. ;)

  8. Oh the living dead. Am I one of them? I have no idea. There are days when I envision something better, but fear holds me prisoner.

  9. This is so true and a great definition of zombies. I have known some zombies like this and I never understand why some people want to stomp on the dreams or aspirations of others. They are definitely a dangerous breed!
