Waiting on Wednesday: We Hunt the Flame

Please Note: I will only be doing WOW once a month for the foreseeable future. My first Netflix Dragon post didn't go up yesterday so I will be posting it (and the second one) next week. Friday will have a review for Shazam instead.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

I already pre-ordered this book and first met the author online via blogging and her website design service. So happy that Hafsah's now a debut author with a book I can't wait to read.

Release Date: May 14, 2019

Blurb: People lived because she killed.
People died because he lived.

Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the king. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected; if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways.

Both are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya—but neither wants to be.

War is brewing, and the Arz sweeps closer with each passing day, engulfing the land in shadow. When Zafira embarks on a quest to uncover a lost artifact that can restore magic to her suffering world and stop the Arz, Nasir is sent by the king on a similar mission: retrieve the artifact and kill the Hunter. But an ancient evil stirs as their journey unfolds—and the prize they seek may pose a threat greater than either can imagine.

Set in a richly detailed world inspired by ancient Arabia, We Hunt the Flame is a gripping debut of discovery, conquering fear, and taking identity into your own hands.

Does this book sound like a great read for you? Are they any books you're looking forward to. Thanks for stopping by.

Waiting On Wednesday: The Deceivers

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

Kristen Simmons is an author I've loved reading books from for years. She has a way to make each story special. Plus she's nice to chat with on social media. So when her latest book became known, I was ready to get my hands on it.

Release Date: Early 2019

Blurb: Pretty Little Liars meets Ocean's 11 in this intrigue-filled contemporary drama from acclaimed author Kristen Simmons.

Welcome to Vale Hall, the school for aspiring con artists.

When Brynn Hilder is recruited to Vale, it seems like the elite academy is her chance to start over, away from her mom's loser boyfriend and her rundown neighborhood. But she soon learns that Vale chooses students not so much for their scholastic talent as for their extracurricular activities, such as her time spent conning rich North Shore kids out of their extravagant allowances.

At first, Brynn jumps at the chance to help the school in its mission to rid the city of corrupt officials--because what could be better than giving entitled jerks what they deserve? But that's before she meets her mark--a senator's son--and before she discovers the school's headmaster has secrets he'll stop at nothing to protect. As the lines between right and wrong blur, Brynn begins to realize she's in way over her head.
Sounds like an exciting read and I can't wait! What do you think? Is this read for you too?

Waiting On Wednesday: Wicked Saints

Sorry about no Wednesday post. Here's what would have gone up yesterday.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

Seeing the cover attracted my attention first. It definitely has a vibe which matches the title. The blurb is even more interesting.

Release Date: April 2, 2019

Blurb: A girl who can speak to gods must save her people without destroying herself.

A prince in danger must decide who to trust.

A boy with a monstrous secret waits in the wings.

Together, they must assassinate the king and stop the war.

In a centuries-long war where beauty and brutality meet, their three paths entwine in a shadowy world of spilled blood and mysterious saints, where a forbidden romance threatens to tip the scales between dark and light. Wicked Saints is the thrilling start to Emily A. Duncan’s devastatingly Gothic Something Dark and Holy trilogy.
I'm definitely intrigued to read this novel when it comes out. How about you? Thanks for stopping by and see you on Friday.

It would be the last week of my blog where I would find the cover and blurb for a book that equaled love at first sight. The cover reveal was just this Monday (August 28) but this is a must read for me already. The blurb has such a great appeal and gravitas. A complete must and  I'm completely in love.

Blurb: "Tyrants cut out hearts. Rulers sacrifice their own."

Princess Hesina of Yan has always been eager to shirk the responsibilities of the crown, but when her beloved father is murdered, she’s thrust into power, suddenly the queen of an unstable kingdom. Determined to find her father’s killer, Hesina does something desperate: she engages the aid of a soothsayer—a treasonous act, punishable by death... because in Yan, magic was outlawed centuries ago.

Using the information illicitly provided by the sooth, and uncertain if she can trust even her family, Hesina turns to Akira—a brilliant and alluring investigator who’s also a convicted criminal with secrets of his own. Waiting on Wednesday: For A Muse Of Fire

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

I have yet to read any of Heidi's books but I have heard good things. So I'm intrigued to read her upcoming release. I have followed her online for a while and enjoy her content and mindset. The cover alone is a sight to behold. Hopefully I'll be blown away once I receive my copy.

Release Date: September 25, 2018

Blurb: A young woman with a dangerous power she barely understands. A smuggler with secrets of his own. A country torn between a merciless colonial army, a terrifying tyrant, and a feared rebel leader. The first book in a new trilogy from the acclaimed Heidi Heilig blends traditional storytelling with ephemera for a lush, page-turning tale of escape and rebellion. For a Muse of Fire will captivate fans of Sabaa Tahir, Leigh Bardugo, and Renée Ahdieh.

Jetta’s family is famed as the most talented troupe of shadow players in the land. With Jetta behind the scrim, their puppets seem to move without string or stick—a trade secret, they say. In truth, Jetta can see the souls of the recently departed and bind them to the puppets with her blood. But the old ways are forbidden ever since the colonial army conquered their country, so Jetta must never show, never tell. Her skill and fame are her family’s way to earn a spot aboard the royal ship to Aquitan, where shadow plays are the latest rage, and where rumor has it the Mad King has a spring that cures his ills. Because seeing spirits is not the only thing that plagues Jetta. But as rebellion seethes and as Jetta meets a young smuggler, she will face truths and decisions that she never imagined—and safety will never seem so far away.

Heidi Heilig creates a vivid, rich world inspired by Asian cultures and French colonialism. Her characters are equally complex and nuanced, including the bipolar heroine. Told from Jetta’s first-person point-of-view, as well as chapters written as play scripts and ephemera such as telegrams and letters, For a Muse of Fire is an engrossing journey that weaves magic, simmering romance, and the deep bonds of family with the high stakes of epic adventure.

What do you think? Thanks for stopping by. Next post will be on Friday.

Waiting on Wednesday: Four Dead Queens

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

Pretty sure the first I saw this book was Twitter where someone shared the cover reveal. Before I never heard of it but buy when I did, hooked immediately. The cover is absolutely gorgeous but the blurb is what sealed the deal. I want to know about these queens, I want to know more about the main character and I want to read this book now! Sadly I have to wait until 2019 but there's no question that I'm excited about this release.

Release Date: February 26, 2019

Blurb: A divided nation. Four Queens. A ruthless pickpocket. A noble messenger. And the murders that unite them.

Get in quick, get out quicker.

These are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as the preeminent dipper in the Concord, the central area uniting the four quadrants of Quadara. She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can’t get in their own quarter. For in the nation of Quadara, each quarter is strictly divided from the other. Four queens rule together, one from each region:

Toria: the intellectual quarter that values education and ambition
Ludia: the pleasure quarter that values celebration, passion, and entertainment
Archia: the agricultural quarter that values simplicity and nature
Eonia: the futurist quarter that values technology, stoicism and harmonious community

When Keralie intercepts a comm disk coming from the House of Concord, what seems like a standard job goes horribly wrong. Upon watching the comm disks, Keralie sees all four queens murdered in four brutal ways. Hoping that discovering the intended recipient will reveal the culprit – information that is bound to be valuable bartering material with the palace – Keralie teams up with Varin Bollt, the Eonist messenger she stole from, to complete Varin’s original job and see where it takes them.

What did you think of this book? Did you love the cover too? Let me know. Thanks for stopping by.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Burning Maze #3

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event spotlighting upcoming books we're excited about. Formerly hosted by Breaking the Spine until her site went quiet. The meme is still followed today by dedicated bloggers who have a need to share their anticipation of upcoming reads.

Rick Riordan is a talented storyteller who I have loved reading for years. His work is mostly aimed towards middle grade and young adult. But as one of the adults who love reading within these genres, I'm hooked. Especially when it includes fantasy. I am excited for the third book in this spine-tingling series.

Release Date: May 1, 2018

Summary: The formerly glorious god Apollo, cast down to earth in punishment by Zeus, is now an awkward mortal teenager named Lester Papadopoulos. With the help of some demigod friends, Lester managed to survive his first two trials, one at Camp Half-Blood, and one in Indianapolis, where Meg received the Dark Prophecy. The words she uttered while seated on the Throne of Memory revealed that an evil triumvirate of Roman emperors plans to attack Camp Jupiter. While Leo flies ahead on Festus to warn the Roman camp, Lester and Meg must go through the Labyrinth to find the third emperor—and an Oracle who speaks in word puzzles—somewhere in the American Southwest. There is one glimmer of hope in the gloom-filled prophecy: The cloven guide alone the way does know. They will have a satyr companion, and Meg knows just who to call upon. . . .

Thank you for stopping by. Sorry for not posting on Tuesday. Monday I had an accident when a family member knocked me with the car door.

My side was hurt and I have pain on the left side of my body. So I have to ease back a bit as I recover. Thank you for understanding and see you Friday.

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine that allows us to spotlight books we are eagerly anticipating to be released.

The cover reveal for this book came with a lot of fanfare. Dhonielle Clayton loves it, many potential readers love it and I must agree the cover is beautiful. With the discussion of diversity being needed in all mediums, this book is a plus. Not to mention having an amazing plotline to boot. I want my hardcover now but have to wait for 2018.
