Movie Chat

Hey everyone hope you are having a lovely Friday. Today I am just going to write about the movies I have seen recently since October.

I saw this movie in October and I really enjoyed it. HOT2 brought back the old gang along with some new characters namely Mavis and Johnny's son Dennis. A lot of the story has to do with Dracula not wanting Mavis to leave the hotel because she fear's for Dennis's safety since he is yet to become a vampire. If you loved the first movie I am sure you will probably like this too, Me personally I loved it. All the comedy, drama and characters were spot on. There were even some dark parts including a scary possession scene you need to see to believe.

Peanuts (2015 film)

Source: Wikipedia

What can I say? Blue Sky did a fantastic job bringing the Peanut gang to life. Charlie Brown was Charlie Brown and Snoopy...damn he sort of stole the show a bit but in a good way. I don't want to give too much away so I will just say this movie was beyond amazing. One of the best animated movies of the year behind Inside Out (and if you didn't like Inside Out I would definitely recommend this to you if you like Animated Movies or Peanuts. If you liked it, go for it still). Oh and I will just say keep an eye out for a certain female character who pretty much reminds us of why Charlie Brown is such a wonderful character at heart. The feels man.

But there is one gripe I have and it is not with the movie. It is actually with movie makers. STOP NOT PROMOTING YOUR STUFF BEYOND FIRST WORLD COUNTRIES! Yes there might be some promotion but almost all is in that one set of top countries. Which is ironic since in some of them movie goers numbers are actually dropping. I can't tell you how many times I just don't understand why places like the Caribbean are not getting more Skype chats from stars of movies or directors. Especially with movies that need that extra oomph which Blue Sky Studios needs since they are not as well known as Dreamworks Animation or Pixar. It saddens me when I see the low number of money made internationally for this movie. Peanuts is a way of life for some people and I know a lot of people in Jamaica did read the comics as kids or watch the show. In fact a lot of people did come when I did. But Peanuts had been regulated to one of the smaller Aud. rooms even with movies like Suffragette being there. Why? Because there is not enough promotion done to make it seem like that many people will come.

Home (Dreamworks Animation movie) when I went to see it weeks after it came out was still airing in one of the large Aud. rooms? Why? Because it got a lot of praise for having a black starring character who was also from the Caribbean and a girl. Not something that happened very often and Rihanna definitely helped boost the appeal. Plus Dreamworks Animation is super popular and well known. But Peanuts and Blue Sky Studios does not have that advantage and while I love this movie like crazy it is disappointing to see it struggle to even make double it's nearly 100 mill budget. Hollywood needs to recognize the need for worldwide promotion. Seeing stars through cable is no longer enough. Internet is king now get on foreign third world channels and websites to expand your damn audience. I mean seriously.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2

Source: Wikipedia

I saw this movie this past Tuesday. This one is the best of the bunch for me. While I have heard complaints about not enough action and so on. I was taken by the characters, dialogue, visuals....it was wonderful in my eyes and I would recommend anyone go see it (unless you just hate Hunger Games then no, leave that hate away from the audience thank you). Katniss is back in this epic conclusion and damn does she take some blows both figuratively and literally. President Coin also shines but a different sort of way. Let's just say when I saw a top 5 Wednesday on Youtube about characters you would want to drown. She is pretty much the Professor Umbridge of Hunger Games to me. Snow might be the main adversary but that woman...I love to hate Snow. Coin...no. For anyone who thinks YA movies are only about romance and childish happy ending plots...you need to go see this movie and get your mind blown. Things happen in this movie okay. There is even a scene straight out of a horror movie. Oh my God. I will stop right here before I tell the entire movie. But yeah, I highly recommend this one.

So thanks for coming in to read my little movie chat and know I appreciate all you who stop by. To my blogging friends and the rest of the community I give all my love and wish you a lifetime of happiness. See you on Monday guys!

  1. Haven't seen any of those, although I know we'll watch the first two when they hit NetFlix.
Blue Sky did the Ice Age movies, which are huge popular. Plus the Rio movies. You'd think they would have a bigger name.

    1. Yes but I think the problem is their movies around my part of the world are better known than the studio. I remembered that they did Rio but until the trailer before the Peanuts movie had completely forgotten they had done the Ice Age movies as well. If someone who loves movies like I do can forget my mind is on the casual movie goer who does not really look up movies in much detail.

When it comes to Blue Sky I think it is just the misfortune of having so many well made animated movies. Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks Animation lead the pack when it comes to being known with both movies and names. I do hope Blue Sky continues to get more recognition in the wider parts of the world because the Ice Age movies are very popular even if I have not watched any since the second movie.

NetFlix is a great way to sit back and watch movies. I let my sister use it for a while because I have been more focused on other stuff. Thanks for stopping by Alex.

  2. I haven't seen these either. Probably won't watch TRANSYLVANIA since the first part made me fall asleep about five times when I watched it, although the characters are cute in it.

  3. I haven't seen either of the Mockinjay films because I hated the book. I wanted to see if they managed to fix the things for the film that bugged me about the unsatisfactory ending. I'm getting mixed input, so I won't make up my mind for a bit yet.

    1. Hunger Games fever is in the air. Not the game maker kind of course. Well I can tell you right now that Peanuts movie is worth time, laughs and heart. Believe and go see it! Whoever wrote that it wasn't worth the time probably comes from the same club of people attacking Mockingjay Part 1 for being bad because it did not make more money than Catching Fire. God forbid that it made over 700 mill, since CF made over 800 then automatically M P1 must suck. Because we all know book adaptations automatically make this kind of money. I mean City of Bones is getting a sequel after making under a $100 mill right? No, no it's not.

Oh and they probably also have a lump of coal for a pet. I mean even if you didn't love it, not worth the time? That is a dismal review and I was disappointed with Tomorrowland. But it was not that bad.

Anyway rant over. Thanks for coming and go see Peanuts.

  6. Hmm...I never thought about how frustrating it would be that movies aren't promoted in other countries. I always thought the rest of the world would be annoyed by American movies overmarketing to their areas.

    1. Even so most of the films shown in the cinemas are from America. So until more foreign films come to Jamaica or we make enough in the Caribbean to take over, Hollywood and etc. need to promote their movies to a wider audience. With how important international box offices have become I don't understand how this is not a thing yet. I want to see Caribbean interviews with Jennifer Lawrence, a nerdy dude from Pixar...something man!

      Thanks for coming by Steph.

    2. I don't see the problem. "Jennifer Lawrence, will you go to the Caribbean to do a few interviews for your new movie?" Uh...YEAH! Every celeb in Hollywood would do that! Although they don't even have to go there...interviews can be done remotely. I wonder if your local press reach out to publicists to offer to interview these celebrities?
