IWSG: To 2014 and the Worrywart

A new year and another IWSG post. In keeping with posting no resolutions I'll just chat a bit about what I have concerns about. This meme is hosted by the wonderful Alex Cavanaugh by the way.

1. That my public writing life and pseudonym will clash. I have to designate writing time and both are demanding.

2. My plans to enter JCDC writing contest this year has to be put aside. At least when it comes to entering a novel. I decided that just this moment. I have too much on my plate and I already have Snow planned for next year and the novel I had wanted to finish in time for JCDC is going to be a serial unlike Snow which is one book. Both are set in Jamaica and star a female character. Though in Snow, she is both the protagonist and antagonist.

3. That when I get an agent I'm wondering if they'll be willing to represent both my YA/MG interests when the latter has just one book. Maybe ever. But at the same time these are 2015 concerns as I'll be focusing on self-publishing/non-agent submissions for 2014. Yet my mind still goes there. Stupid brain.

4. My main focus when it comes to finishing and/or promoting bookings are:

A. The Sacrifice Series

B. Special Novellette for AYA (will say more when I launch AYA blog, stay tuned)

C. Circa

D. Monster City

E. Teen Terror

5. That this doesn't include what I write under a pseudonym. All I will say is nothing has been published yet on that end.

6. Worrying ahead about what my time for self-publishing will be like after I find an agent.

7. That I worry too much.

No matter what though at the end of the day I'm looking forward to 2014 and all the new horizons that are waiting. I still feel insecure about all sorts of things. But I'm still moving forward. Though some encouragement might help.

Best wishes with all that writing (and worrying...it's inevitable; we're writers!!)

  2. Just get that agent and worry about the genres later! I think your worry-plate is also full.

  3. This looks to be your most ambitious year yet. Way to take the reins! Push forward, even into that wall of insecurity. :)

  8. My favorite piece up there is Snow being protag & antag!
yes, you do worry too much =) but that's okay.
just do a little prioritizing and the rest will take care of itself. many things are out of our control, so no use worrying about those.

you will be a busy lady, but busy is fun, right?! keep writing and be happy!

  12. Hey,

I know you're worrying, (and don't worry, you're in the right place !!!) but please know you are a *much* more organized worrier than I :)

All the very *best* in 2014 for you and your pseudonym :)

  13. You wouldn't be the first to worry too much! LOL You'll find an agent who will work with you if that's your goal. Might take some more time, etc. but you're determined to make it happen, and it will.

  14. All of us are insecure when launching in a new direction. You do have a lot on your plate, but like I tell myself I won't get more done in a day than is ordained for me to do.

You have many with you on the journey who will hold your hand when you stumble. Take comfort.

  15. Plenty of good things to focus on. Being realistic with yourself is a good thing. It's good to stretch, but we can hurt ourselves if we're not careful.

  16. you will be fantastictanstictanstic!! yeah...I just said that. :)

  17. Stop worrying and eat cheese, eh? You are going to rock it--once you get out there. Some agent is going to pick up your YA and wonder, "How have I survived without her?" And then she'll totally eat your MG for breakfast, and you'll be floored by how amazing and different life has become. Here's to the good things to come!

  18. I keep reading "wish lists" from YA agents who are also looking for MG submissions, so I think you are on target there.

We have to worry some, don't we? These stories are like our babies going out into the cold world on their own. But if you have done the work, they should be able to stand on their own two feet. Try not to worry (so much).

    Good Luck!

  19. That's quite a few things to be worrying about ... As Crystal said, eating cheese is certainly more enjoyable!
I'm intrigued by the idea of your main character in SNOW being both the protagonist and antagonist. And you're writing other stuff under a secret pseudonym? Also intriguing!
