Netflix Dragon: August 2019

Yes I'm a bit late on this one. The listing for September will be up at the end of the month. What movies have you streamed lately?

Replicas

This film was a mess. One that in my opinion were three different movies smushed into one. Not very good but if you like watching bad movies then go right ahead. Or if you love seeing anything with Keanu Reeves. The subject of cloning was interesting but their take was way too ridiculous to believe.

She-Ra Season 3

We get to go on more adventures with Aurora/She-Ra and company. It was a pretty good season overall. But I felt a few creative choices made it fall from being a great one. Still, recommend for fans of the series.

The Perfection

I have heard some praise this film and I agree there are some interesting storylines, visuals, and horror. But I was not a fan. There are ableism, racism and other undertones or outright obvious decisions that were a huge turn-off. Including making losing a limb seem like a punishment worse than death. People are actually born with missing limbs. It's not just via attacks or accidents. Making it look like there's no future for individuals like that is very damaging. I have seen films tackle that topic carefully but this was not one of them. I won't even go into a white student targeting a black student she met a child. The racism is nauseous, more so when the film tries to make it seem okay. Just no, and then having a white majority cast but somehow the two biggest victims (aside from the white female protagonist) in the film are black and Asian? Yeah...bye.

Once Upon A Time Season 7

I was not a fan of the new direction that Season 7 took. But the storyline eventually grew on me enough to find it a decent conclusion. Might have been wiser to try something else since it ended up being the final season. Feel free to check it out if you feel the urge.

Rocko's Modern Life: Static Cling

I was not a huge fan of this series and only saw some episodes in the past. The movie was a nice time and they covered some important issues. But seems more for those with knowledge of this series.

Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus

This was an absolute masterpiece. Dib and Zim match wits again in a movie deserving of Invader Zim fandom hype and dedication. A must watch and epic movie conclusion to the series.

Other Shows/Movies:

Zootopia: Had a great time rewatching this film.

Let's Be Evil: A decent mind-bending sci-fi film with Children of the Corn vibes.

The Smurfs: Rewatching these old cartoon episodes are interesting, to say the least. Gargamel was even creepier than I thought.

Black Mirror: There were a few leftover episodes from previous seasons I had missed out on.

Rurouni Kenshin, The Bye-Bye Man, Sextuplet, When the Bough Breaks, Tau, Don't Watch This,  Sing.

Thanks for stopping by.

Netflix Dragon: October and November 2018

Missed me? Netflix Dragon is back and we'll be recovering my recent watches. December viewing will be posted in January, for obvious reasons. Let's go and what show/movie did you stream?

DCs Legend of Tomorrow: Season 3

Got through this gem. I have fun with the CW shows and this season had some real stakes.

Beautiful Creatures (film)

I rewatched this movie and it was okay. A medium adaptation of its source material but still interesting with talented actors.

Black Lightning Season 2

So far it's been a great watch.

Riverdale: Season 2

I finished watching the episodes of season 2 that I missed on television.

The Flash: Season 4

This series is still going strong. But I must say I found some parts underwhelming. Still a worthy watch for fans of the CW shows and/or this red speedster.

Arrow: Season 6

I loved this season. I truly felt that Oliver Queen went back to his roots this time around. I believe it's the best season since season 2/3. Plus there is a huge loss (person) towards the end that had me crying.

Supergirl: Season 3

Kara is going through a lot this season. Losing her boyfriend, finding her way and more. So many changes, twists and new discoveries made is a very goods season to binge. Bring it Season 4!!

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This series is a great start for the new show that not only has a scary side but a connection to the new Riverdale series on the CW. This is not your friendly Sabrina, no matter how nice this girl tries to be. Warning: There's a lot of outright Satan worship. Just be prepared if that fact bothers you.

The House of Small Cubes (Animated short)

A beautiful short that touches on an old man's past as he literally tries to keep his home from washing away.

Scandal: Season 7

Olivia Pope and co. go over a cliff together in this thrilling finale. Hard to say goodbye but we must.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Season 1

A fun animated series that will either grow on you or not. There seems to be very little inbetween from what I've seen from fandom and online discussions. I had a good time with it.

Other Viewing: The Lazarus Effect, Troll Hunters: Happy Birthday to You!, Daredevil: Season 3.

Thanks for stopping by. What shows or movies have you seen recently?

Netflix Dragon: April and May 2018

Netflix Dragon segment is back. This week I'll be sharing what I've viewed for April and May. Perhaps you will find a new show/movie to stream and enjoy.

Shadow Hunters: Season 3 (First half)

With news of Freeform canceling the series, the second half was moved from this August 2018 to early 2019. Still, we had an exciting start to Season 3 with new main villain Lilith on the warpath. Clary has her shadow hunter skills put to the ultimate test as does the rest of the cast. Magnus and Alec face the challenges with their relationship on several fronts. Jace has his own demons to face. Other characters face challenges as well and no one is left unscathed. The first half left us a huge cliffhanger not knowing if some characters even survived. Needless to say 2019 needs to hurry up.

Black Lightning: Season One

I completed the season of this new amazing superhero show on the CW. Airing on Netflix the following week helped me stay on top. This black superhero family was built from the ground up and I enjoyed every minute of it. Season 2 is a must see when it starts.

Billions: Season 3

Chuck Rhodes and Bobby Axelrod are at it again. Watching their rivalry to stay ahead of the law and destroy each other is just captivating. Especially when they have to team up to ensure each other's survival. Highly recommend. So glad Showtime allowed Netflix to stream this series.

Megamind

Megamind was a fun film to watch. I have heard it was one of the most popular among Dreamworks Animation fans and I can see why. Not without its flaws, the film takes its own turn with how a supervillain defines himself and just what it really means to be a hero. A fun watch.

A Series of Unfortunate Events: Season 2

I enjoyed the second season for this series which was ironic since I loathed the first season. Minus the last two episodes which I didn't even watch because I found most of the season one so irksome. But the new format of doing each episode in two parts for season two has solved a lot of issues from the previous season. If you liked the first then the second will be even better. If not I leave it to you to decide if a second chance is worth it. It was for me.

Amityville: The Awakening

This horror is both a tragedy in story and quality. Nothing great but still touching enough to feel bad for a family torn apart by accidents and terrible decision making. If you want to watch another Amityville horror film or a fan of the lead actress, go ahead. Otherwise, there is no real need to watch this film. I thought it was serviceable but not that good.

Evil Genius: the True Story of America's Most Diabolical Bank Heist

While this documentary was well done it was also very prejudicial. Highlighting one criminal as this monstrous mastermind while sidelining her mental illness and allowing male partners in crime a slide despite being just as responsible. It is still a great watch but I wished the blame was spread more fairly across the board. Plus there's no question that this was a horrible crime and all participants deserved to go to prison. Except for the one victim who was dragged into this scheme then blown up. Tragic.

Trollhunters: Season 3

I plan to do a full review for this soon. Season 3 has Jim and his friends/allies dealing with consequences from the previous season as well as new challenges. An epic event that's a must watch for any fan of the show and potential newcomers. I can't recommend this show enough for all ages.

Other Shows:

The Blacklist - Rewatched Seasons 1- 2 in preparation to watch Season 4.

Kung Fu Panda 2 - Rewatched both for fun and research purposes for a future Youtube channel.

The Incredibles - Rewatched since Incredibles 2 is coming to theaters in June.

Thank you for stopping by. Did you see any shows you might want to see? Any old or new favorites? Let me know and see you next Monday.

Netflix Dragon: February 2018

The day has arrived folks! My monthly compilation of what I watched on Netflix. Are there any shows you enjoyed in February?

Dragons: Race to the Edge (Season 6)

The final season went out with a bang. Hiccup and his fellow riders went head to head with their enemies both to protect dragons and their human loved ones. Highly recommend and you can check out my review of the show here.

Quantico (Season Two)

Oh my goodness, this season was even crazier than the last. Alex, as usual, gets sucked into multiple conspiracies but this time the stakes are even higher with less clear-cut solutions. Neema and her twin sister face even more prejudice due to their Muslim heritage with both dragged into a terrorist plot. Ryan Booth and Alex's relationship is explored not just in romance but also friendship and as undercover agents/spies. We get to see how the CIA works very different from the FBI and so much more. Midway through a fresh presidential conspiracy pops up and throws all the odds in the air. Just trust me that by the end you will have your brain scrambled, bleeding heart and wanting more. A plane scene towards the end brought tears to my eyes. Though for me nothing tops Simon Asher's sacrifice towards the end of Season One. There was even a small memorial for him this season and it had me in tears. Recommend straight into the stratosphere.

Also Watched

You Get Me: Will review this on Monday. All I will say watch who you make your one night stand ladies and gents. This film about a high school jilted lover gets dark fast.

Altered Carbon: I was supposed to watch this but then decided to wait. So I'm watching in March.

Guardians of the Galaxy: So glad this gem is finally available on Netflix for Jamaica. Peeked at the start just out of pure nostalgia. Will rewatch when I carve out some time.

The Cloverfield Paradox: Watched about the first half hour but it was late and I wanted to sleep. Fell down the Quantico rabbit hole after that. Will finish in March and review.

Black Lightning: I'm enjoying the season so far and having it appear on Netflix after airing on the CW helps me stay on top of things. Recommend.

Thanks for dropping by. What did you watch on Netflix recently? See you on Monday.

Netflix Dragon: The Babysitter Review

Happy Monday folks. Today I'll be reviewing a Netflix Original Film. The Babysitter played on the trope of the evil babysitter and gave it a modern campy vibe. Read on for my full thoughts.

Tired of movies where babysitters are damsels in distress? Enjoy horror comedies? Want a cheap man's 'Home Alone' campy horror where the kid isn't actually alone? Like the more fun and less mind-bending movies by Netflix? Then this one might just be up your alley.

Viewers get to follow Cole, a young boy with typical things in his life like bullies, first crushes, and a best friend. One of the people he cared about the most was Bee, his babysitter. Sexy, cool, friendly and always telling Cole he's better than he thinks, she's a Godsend. But all of that goes out the window when one night Cole decided to stay up late. Seeing your babysitter and her friends murder a fellow teenager for a Satanic ritual would ruin anyone's night. Getting caught is even worse.

What ensues for Cole is a madcap fight for his life as these teens try to kill the only witness to a murder and well...Satan worshipping. Not for the squeamish since there was a lot of blood. As Cole struggles to survive and not be tempted to the join other side or get killed by the beautiful yet cunning Bee and her teen cohorts. The question is not just if Cole will survive but who will he be once this is all over.

In the end, the film is nothing deep, just fun cheap horror. If you like your films simple and want some laughs and maybe a few thrills, then this film might be for you. Personally, I enjoyed it a lot. Though I have to agree with the cheerleader. It's not cool to shoot a girl in the boob. Take care everyone.

So what do you think? Is this movie up your alley? Do you have/enjoy Netflix? Let me know.

Netflix Dragon: Dragons Race to the Edge Season 6 Review

Please Note: Netflix Nation segment has been renamed Netflix Dragon. I would like to expand this segment online and #NetflixDragon can now be used online to keep up with current and previous posts. Twitter (@sheenakgraham) and Instagram (@queendsheena) is where I'll be using these hashtags. #NetflixNation has already been used on and off for years by others. Hence my decision to come up with a new title so I could register the hashtag.

Happy Friday everybody, here with a new post. This time for the final season of Dragons: Race to the Edge. For those who keep up with the series and the Dreamworks movies, we know How to Train Your Dragon 3 comes out in 2019. So there's no question that this series needed to end with a bang. Read on to see my thoughts and decide if this show might be right for you.

This season has finally caught up with the quality of the first two seasons. While I found a few scenes somewhat dodgy, they all came together in the end. Trust me, the two-episode finale is goals and no doubt that this series is among the best on Netflix.

What did I enjoy?

Action: Just about every episode has really good to downright amazing action. Whether flying on dragons or battling on land. Hiccup and his crew are down for anything to protect their home Berk, dragons and the innocent.

Characters: We get to see all the main and even some supporting characters grow throughout the season. 13 episodes might not sound long enough to do that but this finale made it work. Even the twins get somewhat enlightened. Don't worry they're still ridiculous and insane but they learned things. Plus Chicken got some jewelry so everybody wins.

Villains: All I will say is that you better watch all the way to the end. To truly appreciate how perfectly this series has been connected to the films. Each villain played their role well but that end villain scene in episode 13 was just too perfect. No spoilers, it will be worth gold for fans.

Story: We get to see multiple arcs come to great conclusions. Even one with Viggo that I doubted came together really well when the season ended. Though I will say that a few times filler episodes took a bite out of time that could be better dedicated to episodes following the main plotline. A small nitpick in comparison to what worked but still something I have to make note of.

Final Verdict

Season Six was everything any fan of this franchise and lovers of amazing content can hope for. Highly Recommend. My favorite seasons are still the first two but this one comes close behind. Way to end on a high note Dreamworks and Netflix.

P.S.: Viggo is the best villain of the series. Period. Don't at me.

Take care everyone and enjoy your weekend. Hope you liked the new review format. Will be going between this and the original depending on the show/movie. Also I will now be doing this segment twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.

Waiting on Wednesday: Reconnected
