Writing News: Sacrifice HER Cover Choice

Hi everyone! Last week was another iffy internet situation leaving me unable to leave much comments which is why I decided to hold off any new post til the Weekend/Monday. Last year I posted Book News: The Sacrifice Series  and discussed changes I was getting done for the Sacrifice HER cover and about Deadly Luxury's upcoming cover reveal. While the sign up will be coming this week for those wanting to take part in February, I've decided to not add Sacrifice HER's new cover to it. I'll show you right now.

I have a choice between two covers and can officially only use one. I'd like your thoughts on which looks better. I miss the red smoke but would have to pay extra to get the duplicate replacement I had wanted and I'm on a tight writer's budget. Langao has done an excellent job working with me to improve an already wonderful cover and I'm so glad she slugged through my designer inexperience including learning to find images without dark backgrounds for replacing the smoke. Trust me, finding the perfect smoke (with Langao's cover design you have to provide the images for her to use) is tougher than it looks. Smoke people! Now take a look at the two improved covers and let me know which best meets your fancy. I'd love all the help I can get making a choice.

Oh I love the added line for the series and the swirls on each side. Eek! Can you tell if I'm excited?

I can't wait for March! This is my third post for 2014 and I'm looking forward to what the new year has to bring in both my blogging and writing/author world. I hope the rest of you are looking forward to a new year filled with mystery and enjoy your day. I will post for IWSG on Wednesday, share the official sign up list for Deadly Luxury Cover Reveal on Friday, along with the cover reveal for Bad Blood by Nikki Jefford and have my usual Saturday book review. Yup, a nice blogging schedule this week.

Writing News, The Ghosts of Aquinnah Cover Reveal and Courtlight Series Book Blitz

Writing News

Sacrifice Her will be released December 2, mark your calendars folks as there will be a release party, tour, and blitz. My blog Idea Factory has been discontinued but I posted my ideas from the blog here on a page at my Check This Blog Out Blog (where I compile posts from other blogs that I think you should read, nothing posted by me just posts by fellow bloggers). My AYA website will be revealed October 25 and everyone will bet to see what my new genre Adults for Young Adults really is about. Plus a special surprise.

The Ghosts of Aquinnah Cover Reveal

Today we get to see my fellow blogger and author Julie's cover for her latest novel. Not her first book to hit the presses this one can be in your grubby little hands this December. For now enjoy this mysterious cover.

Blurb:

A brilliant flash of light transcends through time.

Another freezes a cloaked figure within a frame of salty mist as
waves crash against a rocky shore. Her harrowing expression shadows the beacon
to a pinprick.

By the next blaze, she is gone. Only the lighthouse remains.

Hannah’s eyes blink in step with each heartbeat. Images of her
deceased parents and Martha’s Vineyard explode like firecrackers inside her
mind.

She shakes her head.

For weeks this eerie woman
dressed in nineteenth century garb has been haunting my webcam, but tonight she
stared into my soul.

Why? ...

Who is she? ...

Casting aside months of research on historic lighthouses, Hannah
drives to the coast and boards a ferry.

What is the strange connection she has to this mysterious woman
suspended in time?

Hannah finds out.

But, it’s not at all what she expects ...

Hannah unravels a century old murder.

Synopsis:

Eighteen-year-old companion trainee Ciardis Weathervane has won the friendship of the royal heir and saved his claim to the throne. Yet her interference in the inheritance rights leaves more harm done than good. The inhabitants of the forest, magic-wielding non-humans, are defiant. They have not forgotten their long struggles nor are they content to watch as the last of their lands perish. Indiestructuble Book Launch and The 13th Floor Cover Reveal

Indiestructable came out late August and is a book made to encourage writers both indie and otherwise to move to the next step. Which is to complete their work and publish it or find an agent/publisher.

First a word from Jessica Bell:

ONLY 99c TO HELP SUPPORT THE INDIE AUTHOR & AN AMAZING CHARITY!
by Jessica Bell

The day I realized I’d been obsessing over my sales figures way too much was the day I closed my eyes and tried to think about the real reason I am an indie author.

Is my primary goal to make money? No. So why do I keep obsessing over my sales stats? I realized it’s because more sales means more people reading my work. What I really really want is to be read. I want to share the one thing in this world I would cut my fingers off for. I know. If I didn’t have any fingers, I wouldn’t be able to physically write, but you know what I mean.

My passion for writing comes with a perpetual replacement button, attached to my side seam, just in case it becomes unraveled, and falls off, after a day gallivanting through the publishing jungle. It can be tough in there, but in the end, being an indie author is OH SO WORTH IT.

This made me wonder …  what’s everybody else’s story?

Then Indiestructible was born.

About Jessica Bell:
The Australian-native contemporary fiction author, poet, and singer/songwriter/guitarist, Jessica Bell, also makes a living as an editor and writer for global ELT publishers (English Language Teaching), such as Pearson Education, HarperCollins, Macmillan Education, Education First and Cengage Learning.

She is the co-publishing editor of Vine Leaves Literary Journal, and the director of the Homeric Writers’ Retreat & Workshop on the Greek island of Ithaca.

Summary: Need motivation and inspiration to self-publish, or sign that contract with an interested small press? Have you done all the research you can, but still feel ambivalent about the idea? "Indiestructible: Inspiring Stories from the Publishing Jungle" brings you the experiences of 29 indie authors—their passions, their insights, their successes—to help you make the leap into indie publishing.

This is not a how-to guide. This is the best of the indie tradition of experienced authors paying forward what they’ve learned, giving you information to help you on your journey. The personal essays in this book will leave you itching to get your work into the hands of readers and experience, first-hand, all the rewards indie publishing has to offer.

100% of proceeds from "Indiestructible" purchases will be donated to BUILDON.org

A New Month and Big Dreams Bloghop #1

It's officially September and this month holds a few exciting things for me not excluding the cover reveal for Sacrifice Her on September 11. Mark your calendars folks. The photo below brings my happiness to the surface. It will soon be two years since I started this blog and I'm so grateful to all of you who helped bring it so far and more so you who became my friends. I love you all and wish you a lifetime of success and happiness.

Big Dreams Bloghop: Post One

Big Dreams Bloghop is hosted by Misha Gerike. Once a month on the last Friday you post about the progress of the goal you chose to sign up with.

I was supposed to do this in the last week of August but forgot. So here's my progress on my plan to create a new genre called AYA (Adults for Young Aduls)

1. My first writing project is titled Teen Terror

2. I plan to create a weekly blog before the end of the year. An AYA one of course.

3. I am percolating on a mock cover.

4. For more on AYA go here. And like I said in a previous post prepare for a lot more info in October.

Upcoming Cover Reveal and Strength Re-Release

As many of you know my cover reveal for Sacrifice Her is September 11. Sacrifice Her Cover Reveal Sign Up Page is still open and I want to thank all of you who have already signed on. My journey to become a published writer as been an eventful one and I can't wait for December when my novella is released to the world. Funny how when I started this blog that while I was interested in self-publishing, a big goal of mine was a traditional publisher and now I'm holding off even looking for an agent until 2015. Things change and 2014 will be spent publishing the five novellas in The Sacrifice Series as well as a surprise book for December 2014. More on that in October.

Strength Re-Release

Cassie Butler parted ways with her publisher and decided to self-publish her novel Strength. It is now an affordable $2.99 and you can also win A Mark of Nexus Postcard.

Purchase: Amazon

Summary: When college student Rena Collins finds herself nose-to-chest with the campus outcast, she's stunned. Wallace Blake is everything she's ever wanted in a man--except he can't touch her. His uncontrollable strength, a so-called gift from his bloodline, makes every interaction dangerous. And with a secret, supernatural war brewing among his kind, there's no time to work it out. To keep Wallace in her life, Rena will have to risk a whole lot more than her heart.

New Adult/Upper YA

Note: Strength (Mark of Nexus #1) was originally published by Sapphire Star Publishing in March of 2013. This independent re-release features a bonus glossary--which should only be read after the book--and a sneak peek of Courage (Mark of Nexus #2)!

Writing News: Got Green Blogfest 2.0 Winner, Big Reveal Success and Express Meme

When I decided to participated in the Got Green Blogfest, I was aiming to win. I wanted to get a prize and worked to create the perfect story. The result was Fool's Gold and readers loved it. Who doesn't a story with leprechauns? On Friday March 22 Mark posted the winners. I won a 3 chapter critique! I'm currently excited about sending in the first 3 chapters of a novella that was written about here as Untitled Novella but is now named Kissing a Ghost. There have been some changes since the untitled post including the novella being a stand alone instead of a series. I left it unfinished but have had a few thoughts about it lately. So Mark's prize is a God send. Thanks Mark, congrats all winners, entrants and of course those who read my blog and others in this 'fest.

Also my Big Reveal Post was a hit. When I decided to use Sacrifice Her as my A-Z Blog Challenge theme. I knew I'd have a challenge doing posts all month for a novella that's still unfinished without giving everything away. But now that worry no longer invades my mind on this topic, I'm content that I've done my best for April. See you there.

Books I enjoyed as a child.

I was crazy addicted to these books. Before I got into the world of Harry Potter, Sweet Valley books (especially the High and University series) were where it was at for me.

No this isn't my bookshelf but I have quite a lot of V.C. Andrews books. In high school it was the book I had to seriously save money to buy because of the cost. Would you believe that up to Harry Potter #4 that these books actually were more expensive? Yeah they ran around $500 (JM) a pop and I got my HP#4 for under $400. Today Andrews books cost nearly $800 or more and HP books are between $1500 to over $3000! Whether it was the Gothic feel, or just really great writing, I was drawn into worlds by this author that  I had to know what happened next.

And the book to conquer them all. I was first introduced to Harry Potter by a friend in my early teens who then lent me her book one. I was thrown into a world of fantasy like never before but it took a few years before I was converted to being a true fantasy gal. Today I can't imagine not buying fantasy/paranormal books every year. When I look at my book collection now, some from high school are actually for older ages than the books I own now. Wild.

P.S.: Next month is the A-Z Blog Challenge so no more Express Meme until May. So ta ta for now.

So that's it. But before you go, check out this cute baby pic (free images rock). I feel just as happy/giddy.

Writing News: For My Country: An Excerpt and Cover Love: The Wicked Within

For My Country is book three in The Sacrifice Series and one of the things I enjoyed about writing it was that I had set this novella in my homeland of Jamaica. While the first four novellas will not be released until later this year I'm excited to share with you an excerpt from For My Country.

Excerpt

Chapter One

Violet stared at her hand in horror. A slanted number five had appeared out of nowhere on her palm. She looked at her parents celebrating New Year's and pretended to be interested in the festivities.

“2013 is here!” Mother declared, waving a brightly coloured cloth around. Father just smiled and watched her jump around, but his face changed when saw his daughter.

She ignored him and ran a finger along the number. Her skin didn't feel any different. Same texture, except now there was number in the middle of her palm. Perhaps this was the painless version of being marked a young nubile black slave whose owner branded teenage girls through magic and existed in the land of Nowhere. If Jamaica was being taken over by an invisible overlord, he must have a twisted sense of humour.

“What’s the matter?” Father asked. “You look upset.”

Violet opened her mouth to answer but was cut off by a burst of screams. Confusion morphed into horror when the source was discovered to be the television showing live coverage of the New Year's Celebration at Hellshire Beach. Enormous waves rose in the air before crashing onto shore. The once jubilant celebration had transformed into a disaster movie. Party goers and news crews were screaming and running for cover as the sea claimed unlucky victims as its own. By the time calm was restored, the beach looked abandoned.

Suddenly, a creature rose from the depths.

“Is that...is that a giant...a super giant octopus?” Violet choked out.

“The Kraken,” my father awed, “I read about it, a creature from Norse Mythology.”

“Norse wha...? Trevor, you read too damn much,” Mother stuttered, and then rebuked him.

The Kraken raised its tentacles and shrieked, causing more huge waves. A screaming female straggler barely escaped being crushed.

Violet wondered if this was the end of the world. The Mayans were wrong but maybe they were coincidentally right about one thing. 2013 was not Earth’s good year. Or maybe this was more biblical. Like Moses and the ten plagues. Was this the start? But what could be next? Would sirens and the minotaur make a guest appearance? And what did the number on her palm mean now?

“Citizens of earth, you have been judged.”

She jumped. The words seemed to come from the television. But the only thing present was the creature. “Holy shit, it talks. That thing is talking!”

“Vi, watch your language,” Mother said.

Violet knelt in front of the screen. Was this Kraken the source of the number on her palm? Now she worried that she just might be numbered for lunch.

She jumped when the phone rang.

“Hello,” Father answered. “Cheryl, calm down. What, you're saying a monster showed up near your beach house? But you’re abroad in Florida; this thing is here at Hellshire Beach.”

Violet covered her mouth to suppress a scream. If her aunt was seeing it too, that meant one thing. The Kraken was projecting itself worldwide.

End Excerpt

So? Did you enjoy it? Let me know your thoughts.

Cover Love

Today I'm showing the cover for The Wicked Within by Kelly Keaton. There is no blurb yet but the book's coming this September. I think the cover looks lovely and dark. The bright and dark colours contrast to create an eye catching cover. And the fact that you can't see the female's full face adds to the mystery.
