Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Tropes

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

Today I get to share with you my ten favourite tropes. These gems help spice up any story.

1. Fairytale Retellings: I love these so much. I even write them and enjoy that beyond words.

2. Band of Misfits - When the chaos breaks out this ragtag group will do their best to fix things. Even if they don't really want to.

3. Magical Training - Yes, please.

4. Quest - Whether to save the world or for other purposes, this trope is a good friend of mine.

5. Prophecies - I love them, more so when they go haywire or come true in disastrous ways.

6. Time Travel - Whether to distant lands or five minutes ago. I'm here for this!

7. Dark Stories - I want my pain and angst. Don't at me!!

8. The Found Family: Not all relations are bound by blood.

9. The Not-Chosen One- I love it when something happens to the person who was supposed to save the world or do an important task and another individual far from qualified has to do it.

10.  Vampires and all those paranormal goodies - Mine!!

That was my top ten for this week. Any special tropes you hold close to your heart? See you tomorrow for Waiting on Wednesday. Thanks for stopping by.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Disliked Reading

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I generally enjoy most of the books I've read. So I decided to just list the books I didn't like reading because I'm not usually glad if they were unenjoyable. This list is in no particular order except for #1.

1. Riot School by Robert Rayner - This book was absolute trash. Not sorry, it was racist, Islamophobic, Anti-Muslim, sexist, misinformation and so many other things. Worst of all it was touted as educational material for young readers. Just thinking about this book makes me upset. As if we are not already trying to make the world a better place without this crap. A huge no!

2. Soldier by Julie Kagawa - There was so much potential but it got bogged down by a sudden switch in focus and a drop in writing quality. The love triangle was always around but when it suddenly took priority over everything else without reason it just messed up the third book in this series. I continued since not everything was awful but I still don't understand why this book even exists.

3. The Iron Trial by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare - If you wanted Harry Potter to bore you, here's the perfect book.

4. Willow by V.C. Andrews - So boring it's almost fatal. Stay away!

5. The Mortal Instruments: City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare - I feel so betrayed. What did I do wrong universe? I love this series and the author but I think this book tried to kill me. I'm just floored, it was so bad.

So that's my list this week. Thank you for stopping by and I'll be trying to post regularly as of now. My health has been unexpectedly in a downturn of late. Take care.

Book Review: Fox and Raccoon and Top Ten Re-Reads

Hey everyone, today we have a double feature. A book review and a Top Ten Tuesday post. Enjoy

Title: Fox and Raccoon

Release Date: June 19, 2018

Source: NetGalley

Summary: The first in a new picture book series featuring sweet felted creatures and a little village you won't soon forget!

Welcome to Juniper Hollow! Meet Fox and Raccoon. They are best friends. They live next door to each other, and they spend every day together. Except for today! Fox is so busy she doesn't have time to play. But never fear--Raccoon is here to help! He mails letters, goes to the fruit stand, picks up some yarn and even buys some sugar. But Fox is STILL busy. Will she ever have time to stop and play with him? As it turns out, she has a surprise up her sleeve...

Lesley-Anne Green's endearing felted animals and adorable detailed sets create a world that readers will want to come back to again and again.
Review

This series was such a sweet quick read. Every word jumped off the page and made you feel part of the story. You could sense the deep love and friendship between Fox and Raccoon. Not only that, the other animals around the community are helpful and kind. If you ever wanted to read a family friendly book with a message of friendship and positivity to a child, this is it. Also a great read for children wanting a book not too long to read for themselves. There's a lot in a tiny package. The artwork is also beautiful. Sadly I hardly saw any of it because the PDF copy I got from Netgalley was of poor quality and somewhat jumbled with hardly any of the pictures actually in it. But I still highly recommend this book because it is a wonderful read for any child.

Rating: 4 Stars

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl.

I am not a huge rereader these days. But I know the books I would grab in an instant.

1. Sweet Valley Series by Francine Pascal: These books were my childhood! I got to follow Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield from childhood all the way to University. Want to do it all over again.

2. R.L. Stine books: Goosebumps, Fear Street...everything. I recently started buying his Slappy puppet series and I'm a kid again. He might write mostly for kids but his books are ageless to me.

3. V.C. Andrews series: The ghostwriter has recently taken the series down a poor quality path. But there are still lots of books from the grander days I have yet to read. The original author might have died after writing only a few of the books herself. But her gothic legend lives on.

4. Harry Potter Series: These books helped define my teens by turning me into a fantasy buff. Before that, I was very contemporary.

5. The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine: C.J. wrote the start of an amazing series. Go read it!

6. School for Good and Evil series by Soman Chainani: Because it's amazing and compelling.

7. Enid Blyton book series: These short story collections are just so beloved.

8. Poetry: Various kinds by different poets

9 & 10. Other books I just can't recall right now. Peace.

Thank you for stopping by. Fancy getting Fox and Raccoon for a child you know? Do you reread?

Top Ten Tuesday: Romantic Book Quote 2018

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish and hosted by  The Artsy Reader Girl.

Well this week's theme is Love Freebie to go along with Valentine's Day on Wednesday. While you should post ten romantic, swoon worthy or sexy quotes from books. Instead, I'll post one and give ten reasons why I am so taken by it.

*Drum Roll*

The Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling

Ten reasons why I chose the Snape quote.

1-5: Severus Snape is an amazingly complex character who while also a bullying angry man turned out to be a talented brave individual who faced many obstacles and never got over losing his soulmate, Lily.

6. Romances can be one-sided and this is often not explored enough in my opinion. Or even worse too often with 'reality show' level drama thrown in. Not here, thank goodness.

7. Snape used one word to show his undying love for Lily. Magical.

8. Not all romances end well and J.K. was able to show how love can survive after tragedy perfectly.

9. The Feels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10. Always (Snape).

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Galentine's Day and VD when it comes Wednesday.
