Ender from Ender's Game Movie

Ender (Andrew 'Ender' Wiggin) from the film Ender's Game is a character who I just saw and learned most about late 2013 after seeing the movie in theatres. But I felt a connection to him right away. I could parallel certain parts of my family life with his and while he was the over achiever and I ended up being the 'underachiever' of my family, I could relate to the pressure of family approval and being looked upon to set the best example. Also I could feel for the siblings who fell short because I know that my parents would be happy with me being just about anything besides a writer (as long as it wasn't minimum wage and definitely if it involved having an office - I shudder at the idea of working full time at a 9-5. One summer job in July 2012 was enough for me. But I liked my co-workers though). Mine are the opposite and I am proud of them excelling in their chosen field and university.

Also the manipulation by others to make Ender do things there way was interesting to watch. But most of all was Ender himself. He was a brilliant boy with responsibilities thrust upon him at too young an age at a dire time for the human race. He has to grow up fast and make decisions that have long reaching consequences. I am sad that news so far don't point to a high chance of a sequel but there are books and Ender is a memorable character that I won't soon forget.

  5. I read the book and saw the movie. Both were good, but I think the coldness of the story and character didn't click with a lot of people.

  6. I mentioned Ender's Game the book in today's post :) But not as the main book focus. Just as one I still have yet to read!

I didn't see the movie, but I guess I will someday.

  8. My parents feel much the same. I recently gave up work to write full time and devote more time to my son but my mother keeps suggesting I apply for jobs every time I walk past a shop with a vacancy in the window. I will definitely check out this movie. I'd never heard of it before this post.

  11. This is a popular choice for E, I see. (I just visited David P. King's blog.) I haven't seen Ender's Game, but it's on my must-watch list now. :)

  12. Ender's Game was amazing, but SO hard to read. I did love Ender's character, but I absolutely despised Peter. I guess that was the intention.

  15. Hey! I’m the underachiever of the family too. Unfortunately still didn't read the book, but I knew about it years ago, it’s a classic. The movie on the other hand was one I awaited for so long, I saw and I loved it, besides, Asa Butterfield is my current favorite child actor, have you seen him in Hugo? brilliant, and why didn’t think of writing about Ender today?

  16. I was the kid who did most everything that my parents wanted me to do. Fortunately, mine always wanted me to be a writer!

  22. I've never read the book. I did the whole Hunger Games thing, mostly because it was a strong female character. But Divergent was a little too sci-fi-ish to me, as were the other Hunger Games books. I guess the whole dystopian thing isn't for me...although I loved Matched!

  23. It's good to see a movie (or read a book) that relates to you so much. I wish you enough success in your chosen field that your family will not thrust upon you their desire for you to do something else. Writer’s Mark
