Review: While I love The Mortal Instrument series sadly I must admit things have started to fall a part a bit after the second book City of Ashes. The third book City of Glass was a rough read for me and months later when I got this book, the fourth, it also took me a long time before I really sat down and read it. In the fourth installment Clary, Jace and Simon have to face new challenges in their lives as the world moves forward. Marriage is on the horizon, love is in the air and unfortunately so is murder and someone using demon blood on the innocents. There are many twist and turns, some good others are either meh or really confusing. I intend to read the series to the end but sadly I must admit that probably Clare's best work in this series ended after City of Ashes. I can only recommend this book to fans of the series, especially of you got through book 3. More so if you loved it because then this book will be a breeze for you.

So at the end of the day while this book stands up enough to let me continue unto the last two books in the series. I am still somewhat disappointed at the loss of the amazing story I read in the first two books. While I understand there are people who are not fans of the author, she is a great storyteller. Sadly not even her great story telling  skills could bring back the magic from the beginning of the series. Yet I will say this is a good read. Just not a great one. At the end of the day I'm still a fan of the author and excited for the new Shadow Hunter series Lady Midnight that is coming out this year.

  1. lol - That last gif! That always stinks when a series starts feeling like that. I haven't read these, but I know it's pretty popular.

    1. They are very popular. Yes it is sad when a good series goes off the rails. Thanks for coming Christy.

  2. My old publisher is doing her books in my country. It seems the saga is neverending. I remember that back in the early days of blogging Cassandra sometimes visited us and commented.

    1. Yeah Clare is not letting go the TMI series anytime soon. Which can be a good thing for an author because you get a long standing gig. So cool that she used to visit your blog Dez. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I only ever read the first three books, I think because at the time, that is all there was suppose to be and I was happy with the way it ended. I'm not sure I will ever read the last three but I'm glad this was an okay read for you.

    1. Trust me you don't have to read further unless you need to. Glad the first three worked well for you.

  5. I haven't read this before, even though I own all the books, but they're soooo many books and I feel like it's going to take me forever to read it >.< But I'm sorry this didn't work out for you, but I love that last gif :P

  6. I haven't read any of the stories. I never really got into the YA books. I'm so out of style!

    1. I'm going to hop on board with Elizabeth, because I'm the same way. They looked interesting, but I had too many other books on my list first. :)

  7. This was my least favorite of the Mortal Instruments books that I read. I wish the original trilogy had stayed a trilogy! But I'm in the minority, LOL.

    Great review!

  8. It's always disappointing when a series fizzles out. But maybe, just maybe it might pick up again. No more hyperventilating.

  9. I can't even remember if I've read this yet - I thought I had read book 4, but I don't remember any hint of marriage! I need to start from book 1 anyway, I'm a little behind.

  10. This is the second time I've read that woman's name in two days!!! Is she suddenly super successful? She's being sued for copyright infringement by a bestselling author who used to work with my mom. I don't think the bestselling author has a case...this author (allegedly) just stole the ideas and you can't copyright those. But read the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon if you haven't already. Sounds like that is something you might like if you liked this series!

  13. I do love the series, but the first three books were much better, I think.
I'm excited too for Lady Midnight.

  14. I haven't read any of the series. Seems to me that generally, books are like movies, in that the sequels don't tend to live-up to the original or early versions. Oh, well. I did enjoy the GIFs, and I want pie too. Smiles.

  15. Truly a great read! I recommend all three of her series---I've bought them all and have fully enjoyed reading them. I heartily recommend all of her Shadowhunter novels, not least of which is her prequel Infernal Device series.
