TV Review: Pitch's Premiere Hits a Home Run

Pitch Title Card.png

Source: Wikipedia

Last night I watched the series premiere of Pitch, a new show on Fox. Through it all I was at the edge of my seat for the highs and lows and I even teared up. Yes we are just hitting the fall season (or in Jamaica, September) but man did it go off with a bang. The series follows a young pitcher who just also happens to be the first female to make Major League Baseball. She is also African American/Black which brings along both a myriad of praises and issues. Wonderful that a woman made the majors but is she able to contend with the other male players? As a woman and representation of a minority race in her country she has both the honor and pressure of many on her shoulders. Then there's the big question of the world vs self, fame vs living your own life and so on. This series covers all of this in spades and that's just in the first episode. I'm definitely ready for episode two. The only question is: Are you ready to (watch) Pitch?

Rating: 5 Stars (and the solar system)

I also live tweeted with the event and below are a few of those tweets. The first one actually got over one hundred likes (now over two hundred) and retweets. And just yesterday there was a 'certain' someone trying to dismiss the power of fans on social media. LOL. Check yourself mister and get WOKE.

Then there were the tweets from others being taken in by the show. Including Pitch's own twitter page.

So in conclusion I enjoyed watching, tweeting with and checking out other's tweets for this new series. I really hope you'll check it out and enjoy your weekend. And no, you don't need to be a baseball fan to enjoy this show. I know jack about the sport beyond television. God Bless

Happy Release Day: The Lying Planet and Coming in Hot

Today I'm celebrating the release of two novels. One YA and the other Adult. The first I had pre-ordered weeks ago and the latter over the weekend. Both are out today so let's take a moment and congratulate these authors.

The Lying Planet

Summary: Promise City. That’s the colony I’ve been aiming for all my life on the planet Liberty. The only thing standing in my way? The Machine. On my eighteenth birthday, this mysterious, octopus-like device will scan my brain and Test my deeds. Good thing I’ve been focusing on being Jay Lawton, hard worker and rule follower, my whole life. Freedom is just beyond my fingertips.

Or so I thought. Two weeks before my Testing with the Machine, I’ve stumbled upon a new reality. The truth. In a single sleepless night, everything I thought I knew about the adults in our colony changes. And the only one who’s totally on my side is the clever, beautiful rebel, Peyton. Together we have to convince the others to sabotage their Testings before it’s too late.

Before the ceremonies are over and the hunting begins.

Purchase: AmazonBarnes & Noble

Saw promotion for this book and decided to give it a shot. I love YA and this book also promises some cool sci-fi. Plan to dig my teeth into this one next month. Big TBR pile.

This month an adventurous cow has been let out to see the world and you can go on and journey as well. Also for every copy whether ebook or paperback that is sold in September, Sunrise Sanctuary gets a $1. So you'll also be donating to a lovely cause with your purchase. Also a big shout out to illustrator Teresa Venter.

While he loves his home at Sunrise Sanctuary, it hasn’t been the same since a piglet named Nathan showed up and stole all the attention away from Moo. Jealous of the new baby, Moo decides now is the time to make his escape and pursue his dream.

Timeless Cover Reveal Palooza

Please Note: I'm playing a little blogging hookie so no Wednesday post. See you Friday!

Yesterday there was the start of the cover reveal for Crystal Collier's upcoming novel Timeless. But as we know reveals never just last for one day. Sometimes days later, weeks, someone new decides to share the beauty of a book cover with others. Today is no different. Except I'm not just going to reveal the cover. I'm going to chat about the lovely lady behind it. But is she really lovely? Let's see.

Crystal Collier

At first glance you see an innocent pair of eyes peeking over that computer screen. But don't be fooled. Even on her blog she admits having an obsession with world domination and cheese. Who else has ab obsession with these things? Who else I ask? I think we all know.

Pinky and the Brain vol1.jpg

You guessed right! Crystal is the real life Brain among us. And the scariest thing is. *whispers* She has no Pinky to distract her! We're doomed! Doomed!

But I'm a writer not the police so I guess her comeuppance has to wait. *Slips paper to someone* I mean no one believes blog profiles right? Anyway I'm just going to move on.... *Piece of paper slides under door* What's this?

*Gasp upon seeing horrifying image filled note* Um, *crushes note* Did I tell you how lovely Crystal is and that we're about to share her amazing cover? Yes? No? Well that's what's happening here. That's ALL that's happening today. *Whimpers* How did she get this note all the way to Jamaica? And so fast?

Oh and this book is also third in a series so without further ado.....

Movie Love: Hell or High Water and Timeless Cover Reveal

Hell or High Water film poster.png

Source: Wikipedia

Venue: Carib 5

Date seen: August 30, 2016

Time: 5:30 pm

What can I say about this movie? It was excellent. Yes that's the word I'm going to use. Oh my goodness I never expected to see a movie over the summer that would become my number one movie of the year. Yes I also enjoyed The Secret Life of Pets but this movie is perfection on so many levels. The actors were great, story spot on, and...just everything. This movie follows two brothers who are trying to save the family farm with little time to do it. They turn to crime but the way this is done no one is saying they are a one-hundred percent right or wrong for do doing it. This movie does not spent time preaching or telling you how to feel. As the audience you get to choose whether you are following the brothers or those out to catch them and put their asses behind bars. Either way you are in for quite a ride as both the performances and story will keep you riveted to the final stand off on the front porch. Before you think that's a spoiler, trust me it's not. I think this is Chris Pine's best performance yet and I'm intrigued to see how he does in Wonder Woman next year.

So in the end I recommend everybody see this movie. I'm still at a loss for words for just how amazing this movie was. If it were a book I'd give it five out of five, a hug and a cookie. Everyone must see it and if you can't find this indie diamond at your theater, then stream it when it becomes available. Here are two one line summaries I'll give this movie to close off.

1. A non-powered Diablo (lawful) and Joker (released from prison) play brothers in a story where robbery becomes the best way to provide a future for Diablo's family.

Note: Yes I made a Suicide Squad reference. I just couldn't help but imagine it.

2. Two brothers go on a robbery spree in an attempt to gather enough money to save their farm, stick it to the bank who stiffed their dying mother and outrun the law who as an old ranger hot on their tail.

Thanks for stopping by and God bless.

Oh wait...I totally forgot.

Timeless Cover Reveal

Had to go back into edits today to add the cover reveal for Crystal Collier's Timeless novel. So sorry I spaced out on that. Will show it again tomorrow with all the details and pizzazz it truly deserves.

So here's the cover for Timeless and it's a good wait for us fans of the series.

Again sincere apologies for forgetting and folks this cover is pretty captivating.

IWSG: Health Stuff and Happiness

This week I'm a bit out of it because of a doctor's visit last week with new medicine for my sinusitis that I might have to stop taking. All I'll say on that is I got some bad headaches and bad pain whenever I touched one side of my nostril that stopped after I didn't use the nasal spray for three days. Not a good sign and seems to be more an irritation of my nose than a sinusitis issue. I plan to visit my family doctor month end to have her look over the medicine. Before I had gone to see an ENT at a nearby medical complex (family doctor works much further away) but I don't know...one of the medicine's on the list that was supposed to be an anti-acid for potential side effects turned out to be a blood pressure medicine. My pressure is fine and even the ENT said I had no need for medicine in that arena...so...yeah that's weird. I really hope I never ended up going to a careless doctor or a medical kook. No disrespect to the medical profession. But when a doctor tells you your medicine is an anti-acid for your stomach and then you find out it's something else from the pharmacist. That's not right.

Anyway I guess my insecurity is my latest health issue. Found out that I had a whole new set of allergies to worry about including birds and season change. At least I got confirmation about perfumes and air fresheners affecting me though. It was annoying when some of my relations claimed I just liked to complain. Chest pains, scratchy throats and tightening of air supply are not complaints! But yeah it felt good to have a doctor confirm it was not my imagination. *Rolls eyes*

And yesterday I ended up not being able to go see Sausage Party because I just got a bad case of something. I got better towards evening but there was no way I was hitting the streets in my condition. Feeling better (than before) while typing this but yeah, health is not one hundred percent on the up and up.

Still I am happy. What? Yes I'm glad to be alive, had fun last night with some Facebook online book events and chatted online with authors from all kinds of genres. Especially romance whose genre is popular among writers at these events. Also have a returning customer from over a year ago for a new freelance project, two more in the pipeline and one 'pop up' customer. Since I mostly draft novels now that's good and consistent work until October at least. I work by chapter or at most three at a time. I'm wary on going full book at once because I got burned before on another site which I no longer use. So no matter my health status I'm happy. Because no one got better by sitting around being in the dumps. Thanks Alex, ninja helpers and co-hosts for another IWSG. God bless everyone.
